Position Overview :
We are seeking a seasoned engineer with 20 years of experience to lead and manage our buildings program. Reporting to the VP of Structural Engineering, you will be an integral part of the engineering team by leading the structural design and providing your technical expertise to develop and implement technical solutions for a variety of complex and challenging projects across Canada.
Key Responsibilities :
Leadership and Expertise : Lead the conceptual and detailed design of infrastructure projects, including commercial buildings, industrial facilities, institutional buildings, wharfs, and bridges.
Provide technical oversight and mentorship to engineers, EITs, and designers, ensuring high-quality design and execution.
Project Management : Oversee all aspects of project design, from initial concept through to detailed execution. Review and approve technical project documentation, ensuring the structural integrity of materials and designs.
Conduct and verify complex calculations.
Client and Stakeholder Coordination : Act as the primary liaison with clients, stakeholders, and sub-consultants, ensuring clear communication and coordination.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, contractors, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, provide technical recommendations, and resolve design challenges.
Technical Proficiency : Interpret geotechnical reports and topographical studies to perform various types of foundation design.
Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation for clients. Conduct feasibility assessments and site inspections. Ensure adherence to all engineering standards and internal procedures in all design activities.
Skills and Attributes :
Professional Qualifications : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil / Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
Current registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Nova Scotia or ability to obtain registration.
Experience and Knowledge : Minimum of 20 years of experience in the design and construction of infrastructure projects, particularly in buildings, bridges, and marine structures.
Deep understanding of building codes, standards, and regulations relevant to structural design and construction. Proficiency in structural analysis software, such as ETABS.
Extensive knowledge of structural design guidelines and codes, including Bridge Code (CSA S6-19), Concrete Code (CSA A23.
3), Steel Code (CSA S16), and Timber Code (CSA O86).
Leadership and Communication : Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
Demonstrated self-starter with superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical Skills : Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a high level of accuracy in calculations and design.
- Flexibility : Willingness to travel to various locations across Canada, up to a maximum of 5 days per 60-90 days.

Other Requirements
All successful applicants must meet requirements to obtain a minimum of Reliability Status clearance through the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD) within 6 months of start date.
