Position Overview
The Sport Medicine Centre in the Faculty of Kinesiology invites applications for a Non‑Physician Expert. This fixed‑term recurring part‑time position is for approximately 12 months with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will complete a 4‑month curriculum training program for the Sport Medicine Specialty clinics, including the Acute Knee Injury Clinic, Acute Sport Concussion Clinic, Acute Sport Injury Clinic, and Shoulder Injury Clinic, to be considered a Non‑Physician Expert (NPE).
The position reports to the NPE Clinical Lead and involves clinical, administrative, and research responsibilities. The incumbent will participate in peer‑review sessions, assist clinic volunteers and medical students, and support the routine operations of the clinics.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
- Administer, coordinate, and operate the clinics; screen and triage patients; take patient history and perform physical exams.
- Schedule appointments, manage examination rooms, and facilitate physician supervision.
- Maintain high patient and practitioner satisfaction through evidence‑based medical practice.
- Apply treatment algorithms and current research to provide high‑standard, cost‑effective care for acute knee injuries.
- Contribute to data collection for clinic evaluation and future research funding submissions.
- Assist in developing the NPE training curriculum and future clinical applications.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director and Alberta Bone and Joint Health Strategic Clinical Network to measure performance, effectiveness, and cost impact of the clinics.
- Participate in budget reviews and future funding submissions to various agencies.
Qualifications / Requirements
Minimum undergraduate degree in athletic therapy, physiotherapy, or a related discipline with knowledge of musculoskeletal injuries and assessments.Completion of the 4‑month NPE curriculum training and examinations, including multiple choice and objective structured clinical examinations.At least three years of direct patient care and / or management of musculoskeletal injuries and concussions.Experience in research and medical systems; effective time and project management skills.Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and Microsoft Office skills.Professionalism in patient and physician interactions.Application Deadline
