The Opportunity The Project Analyst provides budgeting, forecasting, financial and project reporting, and analysis for the portfolio of capital projects.

The analyst will have analytical expertise, identify potential financial risk areas, provide analysis to support decision making, while adhering to SAIT’s financial policies and processes and internal controls.

The analyst position is a key contact with stakeholders that lead, manage, or otherwise interact with capital projects. This role will support SAIT’s annual capital program, deferred maintenance program, and major capital projects.

The Role

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to prepare the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, monthly reporting and project tracking, and related variance analysis in accordance with institutional guidelines.
  • Work with Finance Business Partner and project managers to ensure all projects are properly initiated, authorized, maintained, and closed out.
  • Responsible for working effectively with finance department, managers, and directors to allow for the monthly reconciliation of capital commitments and expenses.
  • Investigate discrepancies should committed costs, accruals or recoveries not be reflected on a timely basis
  • Work collaboratively with Corporate Reporting to provide information for consolidated financial reporting.
  • Be aware of relevant accounting standards and identify risk areas to Corporate Reporting
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of all capital programs.
  • Provide education and training to stakeholders on financial concepts related to capital projects.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with project managers, Finance department, and all other project stakeholders ensuring a spirit of mutual trust, respect, open communication, and transparency.
  • Continuously seek to identify improvements to financial processes and procedures within the portfolio by working in partnership with stakeholders and the Finance Business Partners
  • Continuously seek to identify opportunities for automation, innovation, efficiency, and cost savings

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education
  • Post secondary Diploma or Degree in Business or Accounting
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Attained or working towards a professional accounting designation or MBA.
  • Experience
  • 3+ years of experience in various accounting functions
  • Proficient user of ERP systems and MS Office
  • Experience in project accounting and reporting or construction project management.
  • Experience and knowledge in post-secondary / higher education environment.
  • Demonstrable organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to initiate, implement and support new or modified approaches, practices, and processes in the organization.
  • Excellent oral, written, presentation, problem solving, analytical and interpersonal skills to build confidence within SAIT in the quality, reliability and timeliness of financial services provided.
