Communications and Public Engagement (CPE) provides full-service communications, engagement and marking support to all of government, with expertise in strategic communications planning, issues management, media relations, crisis communications, digital communications, graphic design, advertising, public opinion research, and public engagement.
CPE also manages the government’s website, Alberta.ca, and provides correspondence, writing, and event support for the Premier of Alberta.
CPE delivers coordinated government-wide communications that provides Albertans with clear, accurate, and relevant government information and ensures easy access to government services.

Role
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Communication Services, the Executive Director, Planning and Coordination is accountable for aligning the corporate planning, resourcing and reporting functions for all government communication activities, including project management of high visibility, multi-functional and multi-ministerial initiatives.
The Executive Director will also oversee external facing CPE-supported activities across the province to ensure broad, province-wide coverage and coordinated ministry participation.
The Executive Director will need to have a keen sense of issues and sensitivities and must construct integrated approaches to best deliver government communications while considering the broader impacts of strategies, processes, recommendations, and decisions.
Qualifications
As the ideal candidate for this position, you have extensive background in providing advice to executives and / or senior levels within an organization.
You have broad senior leadership experience in communications planning, change management, and overseeing multiple large, complex projects.
Your well-honed political acumen and agility skills ensure that you are able to manage sensitive communications and advise on complex issues while still leading a team that delivers timely results and high-quality deliverables.
You don’t travel my way or the highway’ but can see several different routes to the same destination and can change course quickly as needed.
Seasoned in managing critical relationships with senior stakeholders, you are recognized for your ability to influence strategic approaches, lead prominent initiatives and demonstrate a high level of diplomacy.
You have a thorough understanding of government decision-making, legislative and policy-making processes. Your knowledge of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy legislation, policies and procedures will be critical to your success in the role.
Project and / or change management certification will be considered assets.
A post-secondary degree in a related field is preferred.
Salary
$4,934.42 - $6,484.75 bi-weekly ($128,788 - $169,251.98 annually)
