What To Expect
A successful R&D Machinist will work with a cross-functional team of Engineers, Machinists, and other Technicians to measure components and subassemblies. As part of an R&D team, no two days will be the same. The candidate must be highly motivated to learn and grow, as there is a wide array of machine tools onsite that require experts to extract their full potential. The candidate must also remain flexible to accommodate shifting priorities and schedules. What You'll Do
- Set up and operate CNC lathes, milling machines, and grinding machines
- Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, and drill presses
- Collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams to develop machining processes for complex components
- Program components for machines listed above using CAM software
- Maintain machine tools and equipment as needed
- Practice 5S cyclical methodology (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) to drive continuous improvement in the lab workspace
- Follow all safety protocols and company policies to maintain a safe and efficient work environment
What You'll Bring
Red Seal certification preferred but equivalent experience will be consideredAbility to use CAM software to program parts for machining (MasterCAM and / or hyperMILL)Experience working with tight tolerances in metric (microns)Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applicationsStrong understanding of GD&T as per ASME Y14.5Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlinesKnowledge of gear machining processes is an assetForklift and crane certifications are an assetAbility to frequently and repetitively lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs.Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearingSeniority level
