The Opportunity :
Area Manager for our Transportation department, located at our Edmonton (Winterburn), Alberta office. Reporting to the Regional Manager, this position will be responsible to assist in the delivery and coordination of Transportation related projects, in the North East Region of Alberta.
The Area Manager will provide operational and technical assistance to WSP Clients and will assist in coordinating project delivery requirements to ensure the successful delivery, management, and cost control of projects.
The Area Manager will also liaison with other Disciplines and Business Units for the successful delivery of multi-discipline projects within the Region.
This position will require regular travel within the North East Region, often on short notice. It is required that the Area Manager reside in Edmonton or the local surrounding area.

What you can expect to do here :
Oversee the delivery of Transportation & Infrastructure related projects to Municipalities and other clients within the Area;
design through construction,
- Business development,
- Oversee project quality control and quality assurance;
- Prepare proposals, tender documents, project cost estimates, monitor budgets, and forecasting;
- Hiring qualified staff;
- Coordinate, organize and control the activities of staff;
- Review work progress, adherence to plans, procedures, budgets and specifications;
- Provide construction and contract administration expertise, leadership, and mentoring of staff;
- Ensure staffing levels meet the requirements of the project;
- Travel required, including occasional overnight.
What you'll bring to WSP :
- Undergraduate degree in civil engineering or a diploma in Civil Engineering Technology will be preferred; other education or a combination of relevant experience will be considered;
- Registered or eligible for registration with ASET as a C.E.T., C.Tech., or P.Tech., or with APEGA as a P.Eng.;
- Experience supervising or managing rural road construction projects or similar type of work;
- Ability to manage multiple projects; and deliver completed, quality work on time and within budget;
- Ability to coordinate a multi-disciplinary team on complex projects;
- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a wide variety of interests / authorities, including public levels of government, utility companies, contractors, First Nations and special interest groups;
- Working knowledge of Provincial design standards and ability to interpret and apply contract drawings, standards and specifications;
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislative (environment, health / safety, etc.) requirements and sensitivity to application in practical circumstances;
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work;
- Ability to analyze and solve problems;
- Demonstrated leadership abilities;
- Valid Alberta driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
