Senior Communications Specialist

Location : Hybrid, Ontario

Empire Life is looking to hire a Senior Communications Specialist to join our Corporate Communications team!

The Senior Communications Specialist supports the continual improvement of communications within the Company and builds awareness of Empire Life and its people by providing high quality, audience-focused communications and communications support on senior projects for internal audiences, advisors, the media and the community. The incumbent is guided by defined procedural constraints and works under the general supervision of the Director, Corporate Communications.

What you’ll be working on

Acts as a Communications Business Partner to provide consultation and communication planning and strategic support for company initiatives at a senior level

Writes internal and external communications, intranet and newsletter articles, website copy, and e-mails to produce accurate, high quality communications materials in a variety of medias (eg. video, print)

Develops and leads corporate social media initiatives to build greater engagement and promote brand awareness

Continually evaluates communication channels, technology and trends to make sure the appropriate strategies, channels and tools are being utilized

Works closely with senior management of the team, and appropriate experts, to resolve enquiries, address emerging communication issues and problems promptly and effectively, mitigating reputational damage

Supports and / or takes a lead role in all media relations activities, including writing and issuing news releases, social media, developing and maintaining a comprehensive database, monitoring and issuing coverage reports, responding to requests and proactively coordinating interviews with designated Company spokespersons

What we’re looking for you to have

3-5+ years of demonstrated experience in communications, public relations or media relations with experience in the financial services industry

Completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma with specialization in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism and graphic design

Knowledge of email, html, presentation, web, social media, and video software

Bilingualism (French / English) is an asset

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships

Ability to apply strategic thinking and problem solving to communication challenges and needs

Tact, diplomacy and the ability to maintain confidentiality of information

Well-developed organizational, prioritization and time management skills

High level of knowledge and skills in area of expertise

Clear writing, editing and proofreading skills with high degree of attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to work well independently and as team member
