Job Description
The Town of Coaldale is an emerging community located in the heart of southern Alberta. With a variety of recreational facilities and a diversity of amenities and tourist attractions, our municipality combines the benefits of small town living with the service provision of larger urban centres.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Recreation Operator carries out maintenance duties for all facilities associated with recreation for the Town. Some interdepartmental overlap is necessary.
Shift work is a requirement of this position.
JOB DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of Town recreation facilities on a regular basis.
- Ensure sports fields are ready for games, including, but not limited to : turf maintenance, painting lines, grooming shale, moving bleachers, filling gopher holes and moving nets.
- Carry out maintenance responsibilities for the outdoor pool, spray park and tot lot facilities.
- Make and maintain ice for the arena and maintain ice facilities.
- Assist in making regular checks, and assist in undertaking minor repairs and standard maintenance procedures to, Town recreation facilities and related equipment.
- Ensure recreation facilities and grounds are cleaned on a regular basis.
- Operate equipment as needed or directed.
- Adhere to Town safety regulations and procedures.
- Identify and report safety concerns or hazards that are encountered in Town facilities.
- Perform other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Minimum one year experience in similar setting.
- Valid Class 5 Operator’s License.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- Considered assets but willing to train right applicant.
- Arena Operator 1 Certification.
- Pool Operator 1 Certification.
- Parks & Sports Field 1 Certification.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Subject to working in indoor environment cold, walking on ice surface.
- Subject to working in outdoor environment heat, cold, dry, dusty and / or wet conditions as well as insects, bees and wildlife.
- Moderate amounts of physical effort including bending, lifting, and walking.
- Use and operation of a variety of vehicles including trucks, Zamboni and etc.
- Regular exposure to water treatment and cleaning / janitorial chemicals.
- Lifting or moving up to 50 lbs. may be required.
- Normal working day consists of 8 hours; however occasional overtime may be required.
HEALTH & SAFETY
- All employees of the Town of Coaldale are governed by and must be compliant with the Town of Coaldale Safety Program.
- Ensure all operations are performed in a safe manner and in accordance with the Town of Coaldale policies, as well as the law as set forth by Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all times as per safe job procedures.
