Structural Engineer, Bridges – WSP Canada (Ontario & Atlantic Canada)
Overview
WSP is seeking an Intermediate Engineer to join our Ontario and Atlantic Canada Bridge Team, based in Dartmouth, Fredericton, or St. John's.
Reporting to the team lead in Dartmouth, the role will handle preliminary and detailed design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and other civil structures for federal, provincial, and municipal clients.
Responsibilities
- Carry out preliminary and detailed analysis and design of bridges, culverts, retaining walls and other civil structures for all levels of government
- Manage bridge engineering projects, coordinate design teams, and support project management teams and technical teams across WSP
- Prepare engineering drawings; check designs and drawings; prepare specifications and contract documents
- Prepare form of tenders, quantity take-offs and construction cost estimates
- Review shop drawings and provide engineering support during construction
- Carry out contract administration and construction supervision
- Prepare reports and proposals; undertake bridge inspections, assessments, and reports
- Set up project meetings, record meeting minutes, and maintain action item list
- Provide technical guidance and direction to support staff, contractors, and vendors as required
- Demonstrate sound written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical and application skills
- Work well under pressure to meet project deadlines
Qualifications
University degree in Civil EngineeringProfessional Engineer with 5–10 years demonstrated experience in structural design and bridge engineering in CanadaSuperior technical understanding, design abilities, and current knowledge of bridge technologiesWorking knowledge of structural analysis software used in bridge designExperience in planning, preliminary and detailed design, and construction of bridges of standard and complex geometry and culverts; thorough knowledge of current Canadian design codes and standardsExperience with inspection, assessment, and rehabilitation of existing structuresExperience in report and proposal writingEffective communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work on several projects at a time with multiple design teamsCommitted team player with willingness to help others and collaborate with team membersA valid driver's licenseEmployer Commitment
