Job Summary
The Lifeguard / Instructor serves the mission of the YMCA of Lethbridge by monitoring and supervising the safety of patrons in the aquatic centre. The main goals of this position are : 1) Ensure patrons are following proper safety guidelines. 2) Monitor all aspects of the aquatic area and facilitate programming and lessons. 3) Maintain a safe and clean work environment. 4) $19.00 / Hr

Nature & Scope
The Lifeguard / Instructor will support the Association as part of the Aquatics team. The major responsibilities of this position are, but not limited to :
Leadership and Strategic PlanningExemplify the YMCA of Lethbridge’s Core Values of caring, honesty, inclusiveness, respect, and responsibility.
Promote a positive, inclusive work environment, responding to general inquiries in a timely manner and in accordance with Association policies and guidelines.Be a YMCA ambassador by engaging in and promoting practices and frameworks which ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.Participate in the YMCA of Lethbridge’s health and safety program including incident management and emergency response when required.Be knowledgeable about how to assist in emergencies (internally and externally to the aquatics area) in accordance with National Lifeguard Standards and the YMCA Emergency Response Procedures.Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating effective listening and comprehensive skills to maintain working relationships.Organizational and Department ManagementContribute to the completion of administrative duties within Aquatics when required.
Instruct and monitor patrons using the aquatic amenities.Occasionally carry out tasks requiring a reasonable degree of mental effort and concentration.Monitor the general safety and maintenance of the aquatic amenities, changerooms, and associated areas.Report concerns to a member of the Aquatics leadership team.Ensure a safe aquatic environment by following and adhering to the YMCA standards and YMCA Aquatic policies and procedures.Model best practices, upholding high standards for excellence in team implementations.Ensure all assigned checklists, reports, and forms are completed in a timely manner.Complete cleaning tasks, changeroom checks, headcounts, and equipment checks in a timely and professional manner.Work on proceduralized tasks that require following prescribed standard practices.Attend all required YMCA trainings and recertifications.Financial Management and Philanthropic InvolvementModel the Association’s dedication to philanthropy.
Participate in Fund Development Initiatives to further the impact of team efforts.Adhere to the team’s annual budget.External Relations and AdvocacyBuild positive relationships with members, patrons, employees, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
Role model team initiatives and projects within the Association.Follow policies regarding confidentiality to safeguard data and information and handle sensitive information with a strong sense of ethics and confidentiality, in addition to all Association policies and guidelines.Participate in external growth opportunities in alignment with team goals.Physical Demands
