Responsibilities

  • Works closely with business and technology stakeholders to understand needs, assist with forward planning of their assigned business domain, and deliver high quality application solutions in order to satisfy those business needs
  • Assumes development responsibility for both complex and large assignments, may act as project manager, and may engage in programming activities where deemed appropriate, based on scope and complexity
  • Apply the systems development methodology and standards to ensure effective solution design, development, testing and implementation are completed in partnership with the business and ITS
  • Working with stakeholders, create system design proposals that ensure efficiency, compatibility and interoperability of the proposed solution
  • Translate business requirements and conceptual designs into well-designed and documented software component specifications
  • Apply Enterprise Architecture principles, standards, and methodology to ensure effective solution design
  • Exhibit and establish a culture of quality solution design and development
  • Explain assumptions and methodologies and simplify complex concepts for non-technical users
  • Articulate pros and cons of an action in a clear manner
  • Review and critique solution / software designs proposed by other systems analysts and developers
  • Document solution designs using a variety of modeling and diagramming techniques such as data flow diagrams, data models, flow charts, entity relationship diagrams
  • Participate in software development and testing as required
  • Use advanced troubleshooting, problem solving and root cause analysis skills to resolve defects, incidents and problems
  • Document investigation results, including causes of errors and solutions provided
  • Prepare estimates of time and resources required to analyze proposed changes to software and to analyze the root cause of operational problems
  • Oversee Application Services team members to ensure successful quality and delivery of project assignments
  • Accurately report project and / or development status to stakeholders and management
  • Maintain product roadmap for technology / solution domain
  • Analyze business and technical designs to thoroughly identify testing requirements
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure test strategies, plans, conditions and cases meet requirements
  • Lead and participate in all phases of solution testing as required
  • Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions for problem areas
  • Develop low risk procedures for converting to and implementing new software and solutions
  • Assist with end user training on application solutions delivered
  • Be aware of current and developing trends in systems and business analysis, relevant technologies, systems development methodologies and best practices
  • Conduct research on hardware and software products to justify recommendations and to support technology solution purchasing efforts
  • Qualifications

    Required Experience and Skills :

  • Completion of a recognized degree or diploma in an IT related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, certification and experience
  • A minimum of 10 (ten) years of IT industry experience., including software development and implementation with the previous six years demonstrating proficiency in analyzing and designing application solutions of increasing complexity
  • Active membership in International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA)
  • Knowledge and experience with the Business Analysis knowledge areas : Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring, Elicitation, Requirements Management and Communication, Enterprise Analysis, Requirements Analysis, and Solution Assessment and Validation
  • Formal training in Systems Analysis and Design, a variety of programming languages, development methods and practices, relational databases, and operating systems
  • Knowledge and experience with the Business Analysis knowledge areas : Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring, Elicitation, Requirements Management and Communication, Enterprise Analysis, Requirements Analysis, and Solution Assessment and Validation
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems, understand business principles and practices, communicate effectively, facilitate and negotiate
  • Must have strong track record in analysis and solution design, demonstrated leadership skills, ability to balance multiple competing priorities, excellent communication, organization, technical, and problem solving skills
  • The ability to work and lead in a team environment
  • Must have subject matter expertise in at least one of the following areas / industries : Gaming, Retail and / or Distribution industries, ERP systems, Business Analytics, Financial or Human Resources functions
  • Working knowledge of ITSM / ITIL (including service design and service level management)
  • Working knowledge of SOA principles
  • Plan and lead business analysis work
  • Manage requirements lifecycle
  • Elicit / gather various types of requirements from stakeholders (including business and IT)
  • Assess detailed technical information
  • Analyze complex problems and recommend solutions
  • Articulate both functional and non-functional requirements (including availability, reliability, maintainability, security, service level requirements, etc.)
  • Document requirements in appropriate formats
  • Communicate requirements to various stakeholders, including business and IT leaders / subject matter experts
  • Evaluate business and IT solutions (including solution fit, quality, and solution sustainment impacts)
  • Assets

  • University degree in Business or Computer Science
  • Business analysis certification such as IIBA CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) or CCBA (Certified Computer Business Analyst)
  • ITIL Certification
  • Experience working in an agile development environment
  • Training in project management, data modeling and software quality assurance methods
  • Previous experience in web content management systems, web site / application development, web service development, enterprise service bus, ETL development, Cognos BI tools, JD Edwards, Lawson, HPSM and Teradata development
