The University Library invites applications for a permanent, full-time Associate University Librarian (Librarian). The Librarian is responsible for managing, building, and strengthening digital collections, university archives, and special collections, while playing a leadership role in the library’s development that supports teaching and research on campus.

In particular, the Librarian is responsible for overseeing the creation of the university’s archival repository and special collections and acts as the University Archivist.

The Librarian plays an instrumental role in ensuring Library makes progress toward its established goals and aligns the Library with the UFV Integrated Strategic Plan.

The incumbent works collaboratively and fosters relationships within the University with librarians, faculty, students, administration and executives, and central administrative departments.

Qualifications :

  • An ALA accredited graduate degree in Library, Archives, Information studies or equivalent, required.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience working in archives, special collections, and digital initiatives in an academic setting.

Experience in a unionized environment would be an asset.

  • Three (3) years in a managerial role supervising staff and the delivery of services and programs is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of academic library function and archives, emerging technologies, and trends in higher education.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a proven ability to plan for and manage change; demonstrated ability to provide leadership, supervise and motivate a significant number of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a creative team of professionals who manage Library operations collaboratively and responsively, and who are committed to achieving excellence through innovative and evidence-based practice.
  • Strong commitment to service-oriented collaboration and outreach with multiple campus constituencies.
  • Well-developed capacity to manage a range of administrative tasks, including those related to budget, record management, and financial control.
  • Superior interpersonal and intercultural spoken and written communication skills, time management, and organizational skills over a wide cross-section of media.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team and meet multiple deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work from any of the University’s library locations.
  • An understanding of the post-secondary landscape across British Columbia and Canada; in-depth knowledge of international post-secondary systems, accreditation organizations, and governing bodies.
  • Demonstrated track record of collaboration among academic and non-academic units.
  • Good technology skills including advanced use of MS Office Suite, learning management systems, video-conferencing tools, social media platforms, financial management software, and student information systems.
  • Create and implement plans - shape, align and execute the strategic priorities to meet student and community needs.
  • Lead change Remain flexible, adjusting to changing circumstances and lead positive change by balancing innovation and calculated risk taking.
  • Cultivate collaborative relationships Build effective working relationships internally and externally and collaborate to achieve mutually beneficial goals.
  • Inspire and develop talent - Invest in developing yourself, staff and faculty, effective teams, and our culture of excellence.
  • Make effective decisions - Make sound and timely decisions that benefit UFV in both straightforward and ambiguous circumstances.
