We are currently looking for an Intermediate Hydrogeologist to join our Environment and Water team in Alberta. This position offers the opportunity to work in Tetra Tech’s expanding Environment and Water Practice with a team of experienced scientists and engineers.
The focus of the position will be to provide environmental and hydrogeological consulting services to a variety of clients throughout Western Canada.
Candidates must have a BSc or MSc (preferred) degree in Geology, Geoscience, or Engineering, focusing on physical and contaminant hydrogeology.
Professional registration with APEGA (or eligible to register), and a minimum of 5 years of experience in the environmental / engineering / water resources consulting fields is required.
- The successful candidate will work on a wide variety of geo-environmental projects including environmental site assessments;
- developing and implementing groundwater investigations; water well design and installation; aquifer testing; baseline hydrogeological studies;
development of conceptual site models; risk assessment and risk management; and remediation feasibility studies.
The successful candidate must be highly motivated; customer focused and work well in a team environment. The successful candidate will need to manage a workload both in the field and office and travel is expected for this position.
Some of the Responsibilities You May Have :
- Lead field investigation programs, collect and analyze field data, communicate, and coordinate with clients and contractors
- Conduct borehole logging, monitoring well installation, maintenance of groundwater wells, hydraulic well testing, and surface water and groundwater sampling
- Evaluate groundwater flow and chemistry data and prepare technical reports
- Support the team in preparing technical proposals
- Assist in managing work schedules and controlling budgets within multi-disciplinary teams.
- Mentor junior team members
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, landowners, and other third parties.
Qualifications that Would Make You A Great Candidate :
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in geology, geoscience or engineering, focusing on contaminant or physical hydrogeology.
- Professional registration with Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientist of Alberta (APEGA), or equivalent.
- 5 years of relevant work experience in a related field, preference will be given to candidates with environmental consulting experience.
- Demonstrated competency in soil and groundwater sampling, drilling, test pitting, monitoring well installations, aquifer testing (e.
g., slug, step, pumping and packer testing).
- In depth knowledge of the Alberta Tier 1 framework, and federal environmental regulations, guidelines and standards related to Contaminated Sites.
- Experience in conducting simple analytical models to assess fate and transport of contaminants in subsurface and analyze aquifer properties.
Numerical modeling is not required but will be considered as an asset.
- Experience in groundwater supply projects including design and installation of water supply and observation wells and execution of aquifer testing programs as per the regulatory requirements for obtaining groundwater diversion licenses for clients.
- Mechanical aptitude would be an asset for troubleshooting and problem-solving equipment in the field.
- Experience in managing projects, developing accurate scopes of work, and executing high quality projects on time and on budget.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Exceptional time-management skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Desire to work and succeed as part of a team.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites across Western and Northern Canada.
