Position Title : Addictions Outreach Worker
Position Type : Part-time / Casual (0 - 24 hrs per week)
5 months TERM w / the possibility of extension)
Start Date : September 2024
Pay : $26 / hr
Location : Yellowknife, NT
Reports to : Associate Director
Under the direction and supervision of the Associate Director, the Addictions Outreach Worker will be responsible for providing mobile outreach services to high-risk youth with substance abuse problems.
The Outreach worker will assist in transporting youth, work to mitigate risk and ensure the personal health and safety of the youth while in the community.
The Outreach Worker will work in accordance with a flexible schedule to meet the program requirements as determined by the Associate Director.
The Outreach Worker will ensure a trauma-informed, strengths-based, harm reduction approach is utilized when supporting youth who may be experiencing mental health issues, addiction issues and other problems.
Through mutual respect and conflict resolution, support staff will ensure a safe and welcoming environment is maintained.
Responsibilities
- Drive the Outreach Vehicle, picking up youth who require transportation to a safe location
- Work well within a team to ensure a positive, constructive work environment
- Engage with youth at all times : be open, communicative, and supportive
- Ensure youth is supervised at all times
- Utilize conflict resolution in supporting youth with complex needs
- Interact with youth using appropriate, respectful communication and to model positive social interaction
- Maintain a cooperative, friendly, helpful and positive attitude with youth
- Role model with enthusiasm and positive energy
- Supporting youth under the influence, ensuring their safety and wellbeing
- Assisting HB frontline staff when and as needed or required with respect to the youth
- Respect all Home Base locations and their rules and regulations
- Engage with community to promote supports for youth
- Communicate with the Associate Director and / or Dorms Manager
- Complete necessary and ongoing documentation
- Attend or complete training opportunities as provided and related to the youth
Qualifications
- Class 5 Drivers’ License with at least one year driving experience required
- Clear Driver’s Abstract required
- First Aid and CPR Certification required
- Vulnerable Sector check from the RCMP within the past 6 month
- HBYK Oath of confidentiality
- Discipline Agreement & Rules to Follow at HBYK
- Firm and established professional boundaries
- Extremely punctual and reliable
- Strong time management skills.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong organizational skills
- Experience working with persons impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, a trauma background, and various behavioral needs
- Enthusiasm and desire to work with at risk youth and make a positive impact on their life
- Knowledge of Northern First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures
- Must be able to work various shift work including days / and or nights, awake overnights
