JOB TITLE : ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING
DEPARTMENT : ENGINEERING
REPORTS TO : DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING
OVERVIEW / BASIC FUNCTION :
The Assistant Director of Engineering will be responsible to oversee the daily overall operation of Engineering include the proper operation, maintenance and repair of all heating, ventilation, refrigeration and mechanical equipment while maintaining quality standards and maximizing profitability.
Develop, coordinate and monitor a rooms maintenance program to ensure the safety and comfort of all staff and guests. Supervise, train and manage all Engineering staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with all departmental policies, service procedures and standards.
- Ensure that standards are maintained at a superior level on a daily basis.
- Act as the DOE in the absence of and work closely with relevant Executive Team members in supporting and achieving the hotel’s goals and objectives.
- Oversee the entire hotel’s maintenance and preventative maintenance program.
- Maintain division standards and control objectives.
- Establish and implement annual objectives for the Engineering department.
- Provide ongoing training and development of the team; ensuring skills sets are up to date
- Ensure daily work orders are responded to in a timely manner with proper follow up and follow through
- Support and uphold hotel philosophy concerning hiring, employee relations, supervision, and disciplinary action.
- Supervise, direct, coordinate, and influence staff in order to maintain service standards of hotel.
- Follow up with the guest complaints and make sure to be solved on the same day.
- Ensure occupational health and safety standards are maintained throughout the hotel and are in compliance with local, state and Federal laws.
Follow up on items requiring actions from the occupational Health & Safety Committee.
- Monitor the engineering inventory and be involved in monitoring the expenses and do the departments purchasing orders.
- All other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Experience : Minimum five to ten years’ experience in a similar capacity for a luxury or ultra-luxury property.
- Education : College or University degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Hospitality Management or equivalent work experience.
- General Skills : Must be able to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy; prioritize, organize and follow-up;
- be a clear thinker, remaining calm and resolving problems using good judgment; follow directions thoroughly; understand a guest’s service needs;
work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team; work with minimal supervision; maintain confidentiality of guest information and pertinent hotel data.
- Technical Skills : Thorough working knowledge of a variety of heating and cooling systems, Thorough working knowledge of preventative maintenance program.
- knowledge of budgeting; Ability to plan, implement and design operating standards and procedures; Ability to effectuate quality and quantity control standards;
- Ability to understand a financial statement and react to it; Ability to be resourceful, creative and maintain flexibility;
Ability to train, motivate, evaluate, mentor and direct employees and managers
- Working knowledge of plumbing codes, electrical codes, national / local fire codes, local mechanical codes, water treatment programs, blue prints and plumbing and wiring schematics, power and hand tools, meters, etc.
- as it relates to the technical trades, knowledge of all mechanical equipment critical to the operation of the building; ability to prepare budgets and ensure cost controls, enforce hotel's standards, policies and procedures with Engineering staff, prioritize and organize work assignments;
- delegate work to Supervisors and staff, direct performance of staff and follow up with corrections where needed, instruct / direct staff in the operation, maintenance and repair of equipment, ascertain staff training needs and provide such training;
troubleshoot and use alternatives in emergency situations, ensure security and confidentiality of all hotel information, interact positively with hotel personnel and provide prompt solutions to problems.
- Language : Required to speak, read and write English, with fluency in other languages preferred.
- Physical Requirements : Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting 50 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicate with guests and co-workers to their understanding.
Visa Requirements : Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
