Job description

Responsibilities

What your day will look like :

Design and Project Coordination

  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and studies to support the development of transportation engineering designs, including EA documentation
  • Design of transportation projects including :
  • Preliminary and Detailed Design
  • Engineering studies
  • Technical specifications
  • Design calculations
  • Transportation drafting using CADD software
  • Conduct site investigations and condition assessments
  • Complete review of safe work practices and perform risk assessments
  • preparation of contract documentation, including contract drawings, construction specifications, tender quantity and cost estimates, and working day estimates
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members including engineers, planners, environmental scientists, engineering technologists and administrative support staff

Business Development

  • Contribute to the preparation of estimates and project proposals
  • Contribute to the leadership and growth of the Transportation group
  • Contribute to the development of public and private sector client relationships and new business opportunities
  • Travel to client locations and / or other Dillon offices for the purposes of executing your responsibilities, internal client relationship development, project research and project delivery

  • Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring

  • Qualifications

    What you will need to succeed :

  • A degree in civil or transportation engineering or a diploma in civil engineering technology
  • Licensed to practice as an engineer-in-training in the province of Ontario, or eligible to be licensed within six months or registered as a civil engineering technologist in the province of Ontario or eligible to be registered within six months
  • 3-8 years of experience with exposure to consulting.
  • Experience

  • Knowledge of relevant municipal / provincial engineering standards and regulatory requirements
  • Knowledge of industry standards, specifications and good engineering practices
  • Understand project design and implementation activities, including development of design drawings and reports, contract document preparation, tendering and contract administration
  • Proficient in the use of current AutoCAD software; working knowledge of Civil 3D, Microstation, OpenRoads Designer or InRoads software will be considered an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication, organization and interpersonal skills
