Assistant Head Lifeguard

The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc is currently accepting applications for two (2) seasonal Assistant Head Lifeguards. This position is expected to start at the beginning of May 2026 and run until early September 2026.
Responsibilities
- Primary responsibility is to assist with the effective and safe delivery of swim programs and pool services at the Strathroy-Caradoc Fair Grounds Aquatic Park.
- Work under the supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor or their designate. In the absence of the Aquatic Supervisor and Head Lifeguard, act as Head Lifeguard or Lifeguard / Instructor as scheduled.
- Collaborate with staff, customers, and stakeholders to deliver Department programs and operate recreation facilities.
- Supervise Aquatic Park staff and patrons as Head Lifeguard when required.
- Assist with instruction and delivery of aquatic programs to Lifesaving Society standards; assist with public swimming programs and special aquatic events; assist with promotion, marketing, and registrations; assist with program registration in Univerus recreation software.
- Support day-to-day operations, housekeeping, monitoring of filtration / chemical systems, and administrative duties; supervise up to ~20 lifeguards / instructors and 3 cashiers when acting as Head Lifeguard.
- Maintain proper records (lessons, reports, filtration, chlorine, etc.) in accordance with Ontario Regulation 565 and municipal policies.
- Handle cash and other payments following proper cash handling procedures; ensure cash security and timely deposits.
- Enforce departmental policies and encourage staff to contribute ideas to improve operations.
- Complete departmental reports (accidents, vandalism, customer complaints) as required.
- May be required to work outside standard hours.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Lifesaving Society’s National Lifeguard – Pool Certification.Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification.Standard First Aid / CPR-C Certification.Considered assets : Lifesaving Society’s Lifesaving Instructor, First Aid Instructor, Bronze Examiner Certifications.Physical ability to perform duties; demonstrated during training and in-service.Minimum 1 year of experience delivering aquatic programs and services (experience is an asset).Exceptional customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.Energetic, positive attitude; ability to work independently.Valid Class G Ontario driver’s licence (asset).Ability to work day, evening, weekend and on-call shifts.A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check prior to starting employment.Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.Compensation & Benefits
Wage : Band 1 – $17.75 - $22.19 per hour + $1.00 per hour Assistant Head Lifeguard Premium (2025 rates)
