The
Individual Learning Modules Office is responsible for the creation,
maintenance, and distribution of all Individual Learning Modules (ILMs). ILMs
are standardized learning resources for instructors and students in
apprenticeship, trades, and technical training courses. Based on the Alberta
apprenticeship course outline, published modules are an important part of the
apprenticeship curriculum and provide apprentices with current, standardized
learning materials that meet Alberta industry standards. The ILM office, both a
learning resource development and publishing team, manages ILM content
development, product creation, publishing, and product distribution.
Learning
Designers on the ILM team are responsible for supporting the development of
engaging, high-quality, outcome-based ILM learning content and ILM learning
resources. ILM content and resources are created in both print and digital
formats, and may be used in face-to-face, blended, or on-line learning delivery
to adult students and learners.
This
role works directly with subject matter experts and applies learning and
instructional design theories, practices, and methods to design and develop ILM
learning content and learning assessment activities. The Learning Designer
supports development of technical, trades-related learning content required to
meet identified institutional, provincial and national learning outcomes and
objectives.
Key
Responsibilities :
Working directly with subject matter
experts (SME), create and develop engaging, outcome-based learning content that
enhances learner understanding and retention. This includes analyzing current
curriculum and resources, identifying and understanding the learner's training
needs, designing learning delivery within the specified ILM resource / format
parameters, and creating learning content that supports both new and existing
learning program plans.
Support SMEs in providing exercises,
activities, and assessments that enhance the learning process and assess
learner performance.
Collaborate with a project team of
learning designers, editors, product specialists, and graphic / illustration
artists for content creation and alignment to desired learning outcomes.
Apply tested instructional design
theories, practice, and methods.
Make recommendations for
supplementary material / media (graphics, photos).
Translate Universal Design for
Learning (UDL) principles to practice and incorporate them effectively into the
learning resource design and learning activities.
Support SME training and on-boarding
(e.g., using applications).
Skills & Abilities : Learning
and Instructional design, teaching methods and practices, and educational
technologies for in-person, online, blended, and virtual learning for adult
education.
Strong
digital technology skills. Demonstrated fluency in industry standard software
and technologies, with an interest in learning and apply new or emerging
technologies. (e.g., Monday.com, MS Office 365).
Familiar
with and comfortable using computer applications relevant to course design and
development such as Microsoft Office Suite, screen capture, graphic
design / editing, and video / virtual conferencing (e.g., Zoom).
Excellent
problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Excellent
organizational and time management skills. Able to manage multiple, diverse
projects simultaneously.
Strong
creative thinking skills. Adaptable and solution oriented.
Strong
graphic and visual design skills are an asset.
Strong
interpersonal skills and collaborative working style.
Able
to be self-directed, proactive, and work with minimal supervision, but also
work well in and contribute to team environment.
Able
to assess internal / external customer / learner needs and manage expectations.
Able
to work in an environment with competing demands, changing requirements and
deadlines.
Cross-cultural
awareness and sensitivity.
Enthusiasm
and appreciation for good humor / fun.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably
in Education, Communication, Distance Education, Digital Media Design, or
similar field preferred.
Post-secondary education in
Learning and Instructional Design, Adult Learning, e-Learning, or related
education is an asset.
3 years' experience in
curriculum development, learning design, and adult education, preferably in the
post-secondary context.
2 years’ experience in
product development, educational publishing and / or educational content
development is an asset.
Experience in project
management is an asset.
Equivalencies
may be considered.
Applicants with
education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials
evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications
Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration : $75,428.08
– Advisor / Specialist II).
This
position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE)
Collective Agreement.
