$76,296 to $101,001 (plus an annual Correctional Service Specific Duty Allowance of $2,140)

OPEN TO STUDENTS CLOSE TO GRADUATING

Students are encouraged to apply should they be completing their degree requirements from a post-secondary institution in a field that focuses on understanding and assessing human behaviour by December 31, 2024 or a degree from a recognized institution by December 31, 2024 along with acceptable correctional experience.

The above note applies for screening purposes only. The essential education requirement would need to be met in order for an appointment to be made.

APPLICATION PROCESS

It is the responsibility of the applicant to clearly outline how they meet each of the screening criteria (i.e. Education and Experience Qualifications) by responding to the screening questions in the online application.

Please note that it is NOT sufficient to only state that the requirement is met or to provide a listing of current responsibilities;

rather, the applicant must provide concrete examples that illustrate how they meet the requirement. Of note, the minimum experience requirement is of approximately three to four months.

The waiting period to be retested is 90 calendar days.

Candidates who were found qualified in a previous Parole Officer selection process that is not mentioned above, will NOT be able to transfer scores to the new process.

The Parole Officer’s responsibilities include guiding the progress of offenders through a progression from most restrictive to least restrictive controls and from institutions to community supervision.

They ensure that legal and policy requirements for reintegration are met as well as manage the reintegration of offenders throughout their sentences while trying to maintain public safety.

Furthermore, they are responsible for assessing, analyzing and recommending potential transfer and release suitability of offenders as well as observing and interpreting the behaviour of the offenders / parolees.

Intent of the process

A pool of partially qualified candidates may be established throughout this selection process to staff temporary and permanent Parole Officer positions.

CSC will review applications on a regular basis and contact candidates selected for further assessment. It is important therefore to complete and submit your application for timely consideration.

EDUCATION

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a field that focuses on understanding and assessing human behaviour

Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution and acceptable correctional experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in formally assessing human behaviour.
  • Experience in each of the following, with the aim of changing human behaviour :
  • Interviewing;
  • Motivating;
  • Counselling;
  • Making referrals or recommendations, and;
  • Identifying needs for intervention.

Note :

Experience refers to a well-defined role within a social services or correctional organization. The minimum experience requirement is of approximately three to four months.

Experience in a correctional environment.

Experience in case management and risk assessment within a federal or provincial correctional facility.

Experience in case management and supervision within a federal, provincial or non-governmental community correctional setting.

Experience interviewing offenders within a federal, provincial or non-governmental community correctional setting.

Experience working with community agencies or programs.

Experience working with young offenders.

Experience working in a cross-cultural environment.

Experience working with people with mental health needs.

Experience interacting with marginalized women.

Experience working in the field of substance abuse / addictions.

Experience working with individuals associated with security threat groups, such as street or prison gangs, organized crime, or other groups involved in criminal behaviour.

ABILITIES

Ability to communicate orally and / or in writing in a language other than English / French that is reflective of the offender population diversity of the operational unit.
