Job description

Qualifications :

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration is preferred.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel Word Outlook Teams PowerPoint) is required.
  • Previous managerial and / or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Expert Knowledge of TPM (Training Pilot Manual) and FAM (Flight Attendant Manual) is preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Transport Canada Regulations (CARs and CASS) is preferred.
  • Proficiency and knowledge of Crew Trac Sked Flex ARDWEB is preferred.
  • English language fluency both written and verbal is required.
  • French language fluency or working knowledge both written and verbal is an asset.

    Basic Purpose of Position :

    To oversee and support of the Pilot Training Coordinator(s) Training Pilot Schedule Planner and the Crew License & Records Coordinator. Liaise with Flight Training Administration Manager for purposes of training forecasting and allocation of training resources. Reports to the Director Training & Standards.

    Key Responsibilities :

    Management of Pilot Training

  • Develop procedures and work instructions within the department.
  • Responsible to ensure all company and Transport Canada rules / regulations are followed in a consistent manner by the Pilot Training Coordinator(s) Training Pilot Schedule Planner and Crew License and Records Coordinator(s).
  • After hours support for training issues related to Crew Training Group TPs training events and crew qualifications.
  • Review and action any Pilot and / or Flight Attendant disqualifications at the end of the month in accordance with the collective agreement(s).
  • Track Line Pilot Training Pilot ACP and Flight Attendant qualifications.
  • Participate in the bi-annual Pilot Position Bids; coordinate required pilot training based on the results of the bid.
  • Liaise with Chief Pilot Training and the Director Training & Standards of regarding changes with training syllabus and communicate to Crew Training as necessary.
  • Apply FTDT rules to training plans.
  • Balancing training requirement to meet operation flying hours as required and specified by executive.

    Simulator and Classroom Planning

  • Oversee all Pilot training events on a monthly basis.
  • Coordinate vacancies and reductions according to the collective agreement.
  • Oversee adequate Pilot and Flight attendant participants for classroom availability.
  • Oversee Transport Canada training and PPC. Manage changes as needed.
  • Daily support for Crew Training Group including duty assignment and distribution coaching and decision making.
  • Manage Crew Training Group work hours vacation and sick time.
  • Sustain Crew Training Group own training to maintain a level of excellence to utilize internal software available for this position including ARDWEB CrewTrac and Sked Flex.
  • Key user for Sked Flex :
  • Identify new codes and qualifications.

  • Coordinate with SkedFlex for changes to training syllabus.
  • Build / Design various qualifications and scheduling within Sked Flex.
  • Standardize training codes and communication to the respected groups.
  • Ensure Crew Training Group is up to date with regulatory requirements that is mandated with Transport Canada and Collective Agreements.
  • Maintain the OLA for training ensuring that Pilots have French instruction (as required).
  • Oversee schedules for Training Pilots (all aircraft types) and Human Factors Instructors.
  • Department Expenses and Budgeting

  • Approve employee expenses in E-trip submitted by Crew Training Group.
  • Approval of all invoices in Ariba for Crew Training department.
  • Annual budget for Flight Operations of all expenses related hotels and travel.
  • Ensure budget is submitted annually for departmental expenses.
  • Review targets monthly to ensure cost are on track.
  • Technical

  • Provide guidance to Crew Training Group with respect to training syllabus and scripting.
  • Ensure the technical requirements of Crew Training Group are met.
  • Liaise with CAE SkedFlex and other external vendors to ensure Crew Records and Crew Training meet internal and Transport Canada standards.
  • Understand and ensure Collective agreements for Pilots & Flight Attendants are adhered to with respect to training.
  • Ensure Crew Training Group follows the TPM (Training Pilot Manual) FIM (Flight instructor Manual) LTM (Line Training Manuals) TCM (Training Control Manual) CASS 725.124 ACPM FAM (Flight Attendant Manual) and the Flight Attendant Training Standard.
  • The Manager Training & Records is the representative on the Corporate Quality Council as referenced in the CSQM the role as a member is to :
  • Represent Flight Operations Training & Records at the Corporate Quality Council and collaboratively establish and implement shared quality processes within Flight Operations.

  • Address Corporate Quality Council requirements share best practices.
  • Promote Quality Management awareness and discipline in the way business is conducted (not limited to SMS & Safety).
  • Ensure that processes needed for the Quality System are established implemented and maintained within Training & Records.
  • Review and represent CAPA statistics and status at Management Review Meetings.
  • Report to the Director Training & Standards. the performance of the Quality System and any need for improvement.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Crew Trac (CAE software suite) Sked Flex ARDWEB iPhone Microsoft Office Suite and Teams.
  • Safety Responsibilities :

  • Managers and supervisors are responsible for ensuring that functions under their control comply with all regulatory requirements and the contents of the Corporate Safety and Quality Manual (including the Roles and Responsibilities Section).
  • Management safety responsibilities include :
  • monitoring and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures

  • ensuring that duties are only undertaken by those who are appropriately trained qualified and equipped (including personal protective equipment)
  • providing adequate human and financial resources to maintain safety
  • identifying risk assessing and addressing workplace hazards
  • establishing completing and verifying corrective action
  • supporting safety investigation and audit activities
  • maintaining safety investigation confidentiality; escalating safety issues that they cannot resolve; encouraging a non-punitive reporting culture; and promoting all aspects of SMS.
  • Safety communication training publication or similar job tasks.
  • Ensure that training and scheduling issues do not compromise the safety of the operation.
  • Must adhere to the CARs and TPM for pilot training and the FAM for the Inflight training.
