Your New Position
We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable individual to fill the role of Production Design Trainer. The successful candidate will have over 20 years of experience in underground mine planning and underground drill & blast Designs.
This person will be responsible for providing comprehensive training and support to Voisey’s Bay MTS Design Team, focusing on utilizing the Deswik mine design software to produce underground stope packages and development layouts.
The Production Design Trainer will play a crucial role in coaching and mentoring the design team to ensure adherence to safety protocols, company standards and industry best practices.
Responsibilities :
- Support the design team in delivering quality prints to the underground operations department in a timely manner.
- Ensure prints are completed with consistency and accuracy.
- Coach, train, and mentor the mine planners in producing quality designs for :
- Safety Notice packages
- Stope preparation prints
- Production drilling packages (ITH, Easer)
- Blasting packages
- Backfilling packages (paste, CRF, rockfill)
- Vertical Raises
- Miscellaneous Holes (drain holes, electrical holes, paste holes)
- Development Layouts
- Discuss and review with mine planners all critical safety considerations when completing designs, such as :
- Proper barricade placement
- Open holes
- Previously blasted areas
- Diamond drill holes
- Remote drilling / remote mucking standards
- Pillar sizes, etc.
- Peer reviews all designs and provide constructive feedback to mine planners.
- Coach mine planners how to perform proper peer reviews by utilizing checklists.
- Ensure industry best practices and all company standards and safety protocols are followed on prints.
- Assist mine planners in developing daily routines to review and document critical information from the underground crews such as drill slips, blast measurements, hole pickups etc.
- Coach mine planners how to analyze survey results such as ITH breakthrough surveys and Cavity Monitoring Surveys (CMS).
- Coach mine planners on how to interpret and analyze unexpected results (hole deviation, improper blast, etc.) and provide planners with a framework for how to troubleshoot and strategically modify designs.
- Ensure all proper record keeping standards are upheld and followed, including but not limited to :
- Open stopes
- Backfilled stopes (including fill type)
- Infrastructure
- Miscellaneous Holes (drain holes, electrical holes, paste holes)
- Regularly audit compliance to standards and identify opportunities for improvement in design processes.
What you need
- An undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering or Diploma in Mining Technology.
- Minimum 20 years of experience in underground mine planning and underground drill & blast designs.
- Proficiency with Deswik CAD & Deswik UGDB.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations in underground mining operations.
- Excellent coaching, mentoring and communication skills.
- Ability to work remotely while maintaining high productivity.
