- JOB PURPOSE : Speech Language Therapeutic Assistants (SLPA) are to assist in the education,development and training of students as well as to assist in maintaining a smooth and efficientoperation of the school in general. SLPA’s must work under the supervision of our Speech LanguageTherapist, teacher and / or administrator and take direction from the professional(s) to whom they areassigned.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS : Assist students who may havespecial behavioural / intellectual needs. Support the instruction of students. Conducthearing, speech, and language screenings. Run language therapy activities as a one-on-one or group basis according to treatment plans developed by the Speech-languagePathologist. Keep records of student progress and performance during sessions andprovide feedback to the Speech-language Pathologist. Responsible for the developmentof materials in relation to the student’s individual programs and strategies as determinedby the Speech-language Pathologist. Assist with the preparation for at homeprogramming, modeling, and monitoring. Assist the Speech-language Pathologist andclassroom teaching team by developing and maintaining detailed notes in regards tostudent progress and response to current program / strategies. Modify material andteaching styles to account for the individual needs of students. Consult regularly withthe teacher, admin and inclusive education coordinator for the benefit of any student.Follow the same code of conduct as certified teachers. Develop trusting relationshipswith children and involve family and community members in classroom activities on aregular basis. Supervise students in structured (classroom) and unstructured settings(hallway, recess, lunch).Report to their immediate supervisor or Principal for duties. Support the evaluation andreporting on students’ intellectual, social, behavioral and academic progress on aregular basis.Maintain the daily attendance register, when requested. Follow supervision schedulemade out by the administrator. Accompany and supervise classes or groups onexcursions or field trips.Work with students in varying academic subjects independently or in small groups.Assist teacher with classroom tasks when requested, work as a team to supportstudents and teacher in routines, and discipline. Assume responsibility to promotecultural awareness in the classroom, community, or special school activity. Other dutiesas assigned.? Speech Language Assistant diploma from a recognized institution.? 1-3 years of experience directly related to pediatric experience.? Knowledge of psychoeducational assessment recommendations, occupationaltherapy recommendations and speech language recommendations.? Non Violent Crisis Intervention Training.? Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.? Knowledge of Cree Language is considered an asset.? Be available to work Monday-Friday 8 : 00-4 : 00. WORKING CONDITIONS : Will be required to work at the Enoch Cree Nation KEA building the 8-hour shift in accordance to theECN Human Resource Policy & Procedure Manual – Section C.Closing Date : February 28 ,2023
