Nature of the work
The waiters / waitresses take the orders and wait on guests according to Pizza Delight customer service protocol. They prepare table settings and perform meal and dessert service.
They may perform the same functions as the hostess and the counter person.
Main functions
- Applies the health regulations as to cleanliness;
- Applies the safety regulations;
- Applies WHMIS;
- Complies with the guidelines related to the proper usage of equipment;
- Complies with the guidelines related to the maintenance tasks of the restaurant and equipment;
- Ensures constant cleanliness of his or her work area;
- Organizes efficiently his or her work area and his or her work;
- Clears, cleans and resets the tables in the dining room;
- Washes and puts away dishes;
- Supplies the service areas;
- Takes reservations and greets the take-out counter guests;
- Greets the guests, presents the menu, makes suggestions, points out promotions and answers all questions about food and beverages;
- Makes use of sales techniques;
- Takes orders and transmits them to the kitchen staff through the POS system;
- Performes the preparation and the service of beverages, wines, liquors and cocktails while complying with Pizza Delight customer service protocol;
- Prepares and serves desserts;
- Serves meals and ensures quality service in the dining room all while complying with Pizza Delight customer service protocol;
- Prepares the bills for meals and / or beverages, receives payments, balances daily financial transactions;
- Executes all other tasks as requested by the supervisor.
Requirements
Experience in restaurant operations is often required. On the job training is provided. A certain amount of manual dexterity is required.
An understanding of complex situations, attention to detail and openness towards change are required. Interpersonal skills, easiness at meeting people, teamwork, collaboration, ability to adapt to a situation, and good communication skills are required.
Bilingualism can be required. Good personal grooming, configence, integrity, management stress skills, dynamism, autonomy and flexibility are required.
Working conditions
Work hours are generally pre-scheduled and there is occasional overtime. The schedule varies according to the position, daytime, the night time or the weekend.
It is frequently required to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays. There is a possibility of part-time work. The schedule may contain split shifts.
Work is rather intense at mealtimes. The work environment is noisy and there can be pressure to maintain the work pace.
