Position Overview :
The Executive Director is the chief executive officer of Hopewell and is responsible for the overall strategic direction, management, and leadership of the organization.
This role requires a dynamic and compassionate leader who can drive the mission forward, ensure high-quality service delivery, and foster a supportive and inclusive environment for both clients and staff.
Key Responsibilities :
- Leadership and Vision :
- Provide strategic leadership and direction to the organization.
- Develop (with the Board) and implement the agency’s strategic plan in alignment with the mission and goals.
- Foster a positive organizational culture that promotes collaboration, inclusion, and excellence.
- Lead and mentor a team of senior management, encouraging professional growth and effective teamwork.
- Human Resources Planning and Management
- Oversee all key people initiatives including recruitment, retention, and coaching with the focus on ensuring a high level of performance and quality in line with the organization’s mission.
- Oversee the implementation of human resources policies, procedures and practices, including the development of job descriptions and performance evaluations for all staff.
- Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with all appropriate legislation and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and legislation.
- Financial Management and Fundraising :
- Develop and oversee the organization’s budget in collaboration with the finance team and Board of Directors.
- Ensure financial sustainability through sound fiscal management, fundraising, and grant acquisition.
- Monitor financial performance, provide regular reports, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Support the Development team in cultivating relationships with donors, sponsors, and grant-making bodies to secure funding.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and legislation.
- Program and Service Delivery :
- Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services tailored to meet the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities within our community and their families.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices.
- Continuously assess and improve the quality and effectiveness of service delivery.
- Community Engagement, Advocacy and Communication :
- Act as the primary spokesperson for Hopewell, representing the organization to the public, stakeholders, and media, representing the agency in a positive and proactive manner.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, government agencies, donors, and other key stakeholders.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with developmental disabilities at local, provincial, and national levels.
- Develop and implement communications plans for various groups of stakeholders, including client families, staff, volunteers, and funders.
- Risk Management :
- Oversee the identification and assessment of potential risks that could impact the organization, including financial, operational, strategic, and compliance risks.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks, including establishing policies, procedures, and controls to minimize the impact of risks, ensuring proper insurance coverage, and maintaining a proactive approach to risk management.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards, including staying informed about changes in legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Board Relations :
- Serve as a key liaison between the Board of Directors and the organization’s staff.
- Provide the Board with accurate and timely information to support informed decision-making.
- Support the Board in organizing its regular Board and Committee meetings.
- Assist in the recruitment, orientation, and development of Board members.
Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, social services, non-profit management, or a related field (Post graduate education is preferred).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of senior management experience in a non-profit organization, ideally within the developmental disabilities or human services sector.
- Strong strategic planning, financial management, and organizational leadership skills.
- In-depth knowledge of issues affecting individuals with developmental disabilities and related policy and advocacy.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire a diverse team.
- Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and resource development.
