INTRODUCTION :
The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department has 5 community centers dedicated as gathering places for citizens of all ages.
The primary purpose of each center is to serve the recreational, social, educational, and cultural needs of the Racine community. Each is ADA accessible.
POSITION PURPOSE :
Under the supervision of the Director and Superintendent of Recreation of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services, this position is responsible for the supervision of staff, events, activities, maintenance, and budgets of the assigned Community Center. ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
- Supervise the overall recreation & cultural activities in the community center & other assigned areas.
- Prepare financial, recreation & cultural budgets and various project proposals.
- Supervise recreation, custodial, and volunteer staff.
- Plan, organize and supervise programs as assigned by the Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.
- Recommend necessary rules and regulations for the operation of recreation and cultural programs.
- Work and coordinate with various organizations; attend meetings and serve on boards & committees.
- Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating programs.
- Assist with hiring, training and orientation of new employees & volunteers.
- Organize and implement social and educational programs to address the needs of a diverse community.
- Organize and coordinate recreation / social activities and tournaments with other centers and organizations.
- Submit and approve payroll for all employees.
- Maintain records and reports on recreation and cultural activities & programs.
- Maintain a consistent and reliable attendance record.
- Perform related work as assigned by the Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :
Air-conditioned work area and non-air conditioned areas. Exposure to heat and cold elements while working with the public indoors and outdoors.
Exposure to odors from cleaning products, floor strippers, and waxes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
- Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sociology or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years’ experience full-time in Recreation or related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Professional certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
- Supervisor of Programming or other related fields.
- Strong leadership qualities as evidenced by participation in community or educational endeavors.
- Good oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to deal with the public in an effective and tactful manner.
- Knowledge of program development and implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise full-time and part-time employees & volunteers.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and maintain an effective work environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE POSITION :
- Extended work week & hours, walking, sitting, standing, talking, hearing, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing / pulling, writing, driving, grasping, bending, twisting, stress, etc.
- Withstand heat and cold elements working with the public.
EQUIPMENT USED :
Copy machine, telephone, postage meter, computer, fax machine, van and automobile, scissors and miscellaneous office equipment, cell phones, walkie-talkie, and scoreboards.
