The City of Delta is seeking an enthusiastic project leader with experience in policy planning. This Planner 2 role is for an individual who is excited at the prospect of helping to shape Delta’s future growth as the City responds to new provincial legislation.

This role would be on the Community Planning team, a small but mighty group of policy planners within the Development Department. This Planner 2 would be responsible for leading major community planning initiatives such as updates to the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw; creating policies and initiatives to respond to Provincial legislation and Council priorities; and leading or assisting with funding applications.

The ideal candidate will be a team player, critical thinker, organized project manager, self-starter, and strong communicator who can represent the Department in a professional manner. Candidates should have :

  • Degree in an appropriate discipline, preferably, a postgraduate degree in Planning
  • In-depth knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, and methods applicable to land use planning and policy development
  • Significant experience in researching, developing, and implementing policies, plans and / or bylaws, including the ability to prepare recommendations on a variety of planning projects, programs, and policies
  • A strong track record of successful project management, including supervising staff and / or external consultants and coordinating teams
  • Strong communication skills with significant experience in public engagement and consultation, the ability to communicate effectively and explain technical concepts and plans to the general public, and experience preparing concise and accurate reports and presentations for decision-makers
  • Considerable knowledge of applicable regulations, policies, bylaws, and legislation applicable to land use planning in B.C. and the City of Delta
  • Considerable knowledge of and professional experience working with the Local Government Act or Vancouver Charter, Community Charter, and / or Housing Supply Act
  • Considerable knowledge of and professional experience working with the Agricultural Land Commission Act, Agricultural Land Reserve Regulations, Right to Farm Act, and related policies and bulletins
  • Expertise working in a field or local government setting directly related to community planning, land use, and / or development

Workload would be assigned based on both your skill set and departmental needs, and may include agriculture, housing, heritage, environmental, development, and / or land use planning.

Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of BC and the Canadian Institute of Planners is required. This position requires a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
