The Opportunity
The Youth Peer Support (YPS) Worker is a key member of the Foundry centre team. The YPS worker offers peer-based mentoring and emotional support and works collaboratively with youth, their families and members of the care team. By utilizing their own lived experience, the YPS worker helps youth and young adults to enhance their health and wellness through service navigation, providing resource information and connecting them with Foundry and / or community resources. This position assists with the delivery of drop-in services and outreach activities, offering support both on a one-on-one basis and in a group setting.

POSITION : Permanent, full -time
HOURS OF WORK : 37.5 Hours per week
SALARY RANGE : CSSEA Wage Grid 10 : $26.83 - $29.76 hourly (depending on experience and qualification)
BENEFITS : Extended health, dental, vision care, Group TFSA / RSP
VACATION : As per ESSS policy

Some Key Duties and Responsibilities :
Plays an active role in the multipurpose room and lounge during drop in by implementing guidelines, modeling pro-social behaviour and participating in activities.
Facilitates new client intake tours and orientation to the space on a regular basis.
Completes and maintains related records and documentation including statistics, progress reports and care plans, meeting agency and accreditation requirements;
Qualifications :
1. Education and Knowledge
Post-secondary education in a related discipline considered an asset;
2. Training and Experience
Lived experience of mental illness and / or substance use, completion of or eligible for completion of a recognized youth peer support training program and willing to self-identify and share experience of recovery.
Direct service delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based services and related provincial and community support service systems considered an asset.
3. Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge and application of trauma-informed and culturally safe principles of care.
Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Acts, pertinent regulations, policy, procedures and other statutory and certification requirements (such as the Mental Health Act; Adult Guardianship Act; Child, Family and Community Service Act; and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act).
Ability to make effective referrals in a collaborative manner, reflecting in-depth knowledge of community resources and strong collaborative skills in working with other community partners.
4. Other Information
Must possess a valid BC class 5 Drivers license, have a reliable vehicle, business insurance and drivers abstract review. (mileage paid for work use)
Police Information Check including a vulnerable sector check
Current First Aid certification required.
