The Opportunity
We are hiring a Sr. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager for our Underground Salt Mine in Goderich, Ontario—the largest underground salt mine in the world, located 1,800 feet beneath Lake Huron. This role is critical in fostering a safe, healthy, and productive work environment while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. Goderich, known as Canada’s Prettiest Town, offers a scenic lakeside community approximately 1.5 hours from London and Kitchener-Waterloo.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the Environmental, Health, and Safety team for the Goderich Mine.
- Plan, direct, and monitor safety, environmental, and security programs to achieve site objectives.
- Develop and implement EHS policies and procedures tailored to mining operations.
- Stay current on industry regulations and ensure compliance with federal and provincial standards.
- Design and deliver EHS training programs for employees and contractors.
- Manage risk assessments, critical control monitoring, and contractor EHS performance.
- Oversee incident investigations using ICAM or similar methodologies.
- Maintain the Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) and ensure accurate reporting.
- Track and analyze injury and illness data to identify trends and recommend proactive strategies.
- Collaborate with HR on medical case management and return‑to‑work programs.
- Serve as an active member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Champion change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental / Industrial Hygiene, Sciences, or related discipline.Minimum 10 years of relevant experience; underground mining experience highly preferred.Proven success leading and developing high‑performing EHS teams.Experience implementing behavior‑based or cognitive safety systems.Knowledge of workers’ compensation case management and return‑to‑work programs.Strong leadership and ability to drive cultural change.Advanced project management and communication skills.In‑depth understanding of regulatory requirements, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to generate analytical reports.Salary Range- 170,000#J-18808-Ljbffr
