MISSION

The Director of Finance and Operations will play a key role in overseeing the financial, operational, and administrative aspects of the organization.

The successful candidate will require a strong combination of operational leadership, financial and business acumen, and strategic planning skills to assist the organization in achieving its mission.

The Pod Group is partnering with this organization to place a highly passionate and driven leader to fulfill the role of the Director of Finance and Operations.

The Director of Finance and Operations provides organizational financial management to elevate the finance and accounting systems of the organization.

PRIORITIES

Operations & Strategic Planning :

  • Assist in setting financial and operational goals and strategies, providing ongoing analysis to support sound decision-making
  • Oversee, review and implement office operations, special projects, and administrative policies that maintain efficiency and consistency in the effective operation of the organization
  • Ensure accurate and timely records of financial transactions and operational activities are maintained
  • Contribute and ensure the implementation of the strategic plan
  • Engage with external stakeholders to effectively manage the operations of the organization. Provide operational support and administrative strategies to Senior Managers
  • Provide quarterly progress reports to the President and CEO for the Board, Finance and Audit Committee and Fundraising Committee as requested / required
  • Proactively explore and pursue new government funding opportunities and initiatives

Financial Oversight & Management :

  • Develop and manage the annual and capital budget in collaboration with the senior leadership team
  • Monitor financial performance, including the management of investments and assets, ensuring compliance with all financial regulations, and making recommendations for adjustments as needed
  • Prepare financial reports and statements for internal and external stakeholders, including the Finance & Audit Committee and Board of Directors
  • Create best practices related to financial systems and policies
  • Manage contracts and price negotiations with vendors and service providers
  • Set goals and expectations and monitor progress and development for direct reports, including recommendations for compensation, training opportunities, and / or performance plans

Information Technology & Database Management Systems :

  • Ensure appropriate technology back-up, ongoing cyber security policy review and procedural adherence and compliance
  • Maintain and enhance information technology systems, data and internal process management
  • Oversee the monitoring of inventory of all hardware and software for the organization

Risk Management :

  • Identify potential financial or operational risks and recommend strategies and plans to safeguard the organization's assets
  • Review and oversee the management of all leases, contracts and other financial commitments
  • Ensure all reports and contracts relevant to programs, services and not-for-profit legislation are submitted in a timely manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

TALENTS & EXPERTISE

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required
  • Minimum Of 8 to 10 proven years of experience in financial and operations management, preferably in the nonprofit or charitable sector
  • Proven leadership and team management skills
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit compliance, accounting standards, and regulations
  • Proven ability to streamline processes and improve day-to-day workflow and operations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with customer service management software (CRM) an asset
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check required
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required
