Our dedication to engineering excellence and continuous improvement drives our success and growth.
Summary
We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing & Launch Engineer to lead tooling readiness, process validation, and launch execution for automotive assemblies. This role works closely with internal tooling, product engineering, quality, and operations to ensure robust, repeatable, and capable manufacturing processes at SOP and beyond. Support WMG’s automotive seating / headrest / armrest component production by ensuring all tooling (weld-fixtures, assembly jigs, EOL testers) and manufacturing / assembly processes are designed, validated, audited and maintained to meet WMG’s quality, repeatability, and production-capability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with internal product design, tool design and tool shop units to define requirements, datum strategies and tolerance stack ups for weld fixtures, checking fixtures, assembly fixtures, and EOL fixtures / testers.
- Support DFM / DFA reviews with product engineering (for seat components, headrests, armrests, plastic parts, foam, trim) to ensure manufacturability from design stage through to final assembly.
- Validate and qualify new fixtures : run try-outs, perform gauge R&R studies, tolerance checks, repeatability / robustness tests.
- Define, document, and audit manufacturing process flows (PFMEA / control plans), especially for assembly (mechanical, welded, multi-stage), plastic molding + assembly, foam / trim integration, and EOL testing.
- Conduct regular audits of assembly processes, weld process, operator procedure adherence, fixture / setup integrity, and EOL testing consistency.
- Lead root cause investigations (e.g. for quality defects, process failures, weld / assembly / final-inspection failures), implement corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Perform capability studies (Cp, Cpk) for critical dimensions / features / process outputs; monitor yields and first-pass yield (FPY).
- Support new product introductions (NPI), production launches, and design / tooling changes with robust process validation.
- Act as the single manufacturing owner during ramp-up.
- Monitor quality, scrap, throughput, and downtime during early production.
- Lead rapid response to launch issues and ensure stable SOP handoff.
- Capture lessons learned and standardized improvements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product engineering, quality, tooling, trim / foam / plastic teams, and operations across WMG’s facilities.
