Technical Support Representative – Mining

SMS Equipment is seeking a highly skilled and customer‑focused Technical Support Representative to support field and shop teams in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heavy mining equipment. This position plays a key role in resolving technical issues, supporting trades teams, and ensuring equipment availability for our customers. Work Location: Fort McMurray, AB
Salary: $150,000 - $165,000 annually
Work arrangement: Fixed on site – working daily from the branch or customer site
Schedule: 14x14

What You'll Do

• Respond quickly to equipment‑down situations requiring advanced troubleshooting.
• Provide after‑hours technical support as required.
• Support field and shop maintenance activities to ensure safe and effective repair of mining equipment.
• Track and monitor field test programs and collaborate with Reliability and Corporate Technical Support teams.
• Identify, analyze, and communicate technical issues that impact equipment availability.
• Liaise with OEM reps and keep customers informed on equipment issues and resolutions.
• Serve as a technical contact between SMS Equipment, Komatsu, and customer teams.
• Prepare and maintain field service reports, technical summaries, and daily updates.
• Document and report equipment observations, product concerns, and performance issues.
• Support warranty processes by gathering information and communicating findings.
• Provide technical training for equipment updates, repairs, and industry‑specific needs.
• Review preventative maintenance programs, vibration analysis, and oil analysis findings.
• Participate in meetings, task groups, and special projects as assigned.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate will have Journeyperson certification in a relevant trade along with a strong technical knowledge of mining equipment maintenance and repair. Additional qualifications include:

• A minimum of 3 years of Komatsu-specific and/or mining equipment repair experience.
• Excellent communication, organization, and multi‑tasking skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate, detailed notes and documentation.
• Computer proficiency (e.g., Word, Excel, diagnostic tools, OEM software).
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to equipment inspection and operation.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.

This position is classified as an Individual Contributor role in SMS Equipment’s competency framework, requiring demonstration of core competencies (customer focus, collaboration, and technical/functional expertise).
