The opportunity
As a result of accelerated growth, Altus is looking for a new Cost Consultant, Construction Cost Planning. This is an exciting opportunity to spearhead the end-to-end estimation process for high-profile, complex construction projects from institutions such as schools and hospitals to mixed-use, office, and government buildings and corporate towers. You will consult with internal and external experts, review Class D to Class A estimates, be supported by a junior analyst, and determine the feasibility of builds based on the alignment of builds, budget, and estimated costs.

What you will do :
Provide a full range of cost estimating services to new and existing clients. You will :
Develop a deep understanding of the client's unique requirements.
Review contract documentation.
Conduct needs analysis and determine solutions.
Maintain ongoing client communication and resolve issues, escalating as required.
Prepare estimates at various stages, from conceptual design to the pre-tender stage. You will :
Complete design efficiency analysis, along with full trade and elemental take-off.
Assist in the pricing of estimates and tender analysis.
Prepare front-end cost reports to support cost estimates.
Assist in preparation of change order review analysis and lifecycle cost estimates
Manage relationships. You will :
Nurture communications with clients, sharing knowledge and insights, leading to contract renewal, referrals, and service expansion, including up-sells and cross-sells.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to prepare proposals and reports.
Our new Cost Consultant will have :
The education. You have a degree or diploma in Architecture, Construction or Civil Technology, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Science, or a related field. You are working towards PQS designation, CIQS / RICS membership, or LEED accreditation.
Hands-on construction industry expertise. You have 3 years of experience in estimating / quantity surveying. You have a senior-level understanding of construction estimates, contracting, procurement, and scheduling for commercial development projects. You have strong knowledge of CIQS standard method of measurement, both elemental and trade, provincial lien acts, and CCDC standard contract conditions.
Technology skills. You are highly proficient with Sharepoint and MS Office, including Project. Ideally, you have hands-on exposure to CostX.
Relationship building . You can build and foster relationships with internal and client stakeholders across all levels of construction projects, gathering information, and eliciting cooperation both onsite and virtually.
Transparent communication style. You are an outstanding communicator who can clarify ambiguities and present information in a way that is structured and makes sense. You can relay delays and setbacks while managing expectations and retaining the client's confidence.
A results-oriented focus. You can anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of clients, and you are driven to meet or exceed their expectations. You can innovate solutions to keep the project - and the business - moving forward.
