Job Description :

Our client is a large established player in the manufacturing sector and is looking for a driven Controller to join their team and work closely with the CFO.

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities for the organization, in conjunction with the CFO.

You will play a crucial role in managing the financial operations of their group of companies. You will be responsible for overseeing the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and implementing internal controls.

You will also work closely with the Company’s external assurance and tax provider.

Duties and responsibilities of the Controller is as follows :

  • Oversee the issuance of financial information (P&L, balance, cash flows, general ledgers, specific reports).
  • Oversee the monthly close process, reviewing journal entries, reporting.
  • Manages the Company’s treasury process including banking relationships, cash flow and forecasting.
  • Serves as a leader on the finance team, including providing coaching and development to a growing team of direct and indirect reports.
  • Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the President and make actionable recommendations on both strategy and operations.
  • Oversee corporate tax return process for various subsidiaries.
  • Assess financial performance and work with Leadership team to drive profitability.
  • Detect and implement cash improvement solutions (working capital, capital expenditures).
  • Knowledge and experience with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), ASPE (Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises), IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
  • Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls.
  • Develop and direct the implementation of strategic business and / or operational plans, projects, programs, and systems.
  • Assist in obtaining, renewing the necessary licenses and insurance required to the business.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Assess organizational performance against the annual budget.
  • Optimize the handling of banking relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance cash positions.
  • Oversee budgeting and the implementation of budgets so as to monitor progress and present financial metrics both internally and externally.
  • Oversee financial management of operations to include developing financial policies and procedures.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff.
  • Manage the annual audit process.
  • Establishes, maintains, and communicates accounting compliance requirements for new accounting standards.
  • Manages the Company’s general ledger and chart of accounts structure.
  • Assists with special projects as needed.

Job Requirements :

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA) with 5+ or more years of accounting experience, ideally including a minimum of 2+ years of management level industry experience.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
  • Willing to be hands on when needed to achieve goals.
  • Strong work ethic and team oriented.
  • Advanced Microsoft office skills are required (e.g. pivot table, VLOOKUP, merge and macros).
  • Extensive experience and knowledge in dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, and asset management.
  • Ability to motivate teams to produce quality information and simultaneously manage several projects.
  • Experience with US GAAP and US Tax.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry is highly desirable.
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and organization skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial, and state financial and tax regulations.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor.
