Speech-Language Pathologist (Contract)
The Edmonton Down Syndrome Society (EDSS) is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to join our team of contract therapists.

The Edmonton Down Syndrome Society (EDSS) has been supporting people with Down syndrome and their families for over 30 years. We provide information, resources, and services to help families thrive, while promoting inclusion and awareness in the community. Our team is passionate about empowering individuals with Down syndrome to reach their full potential and creating a supportive, welcoming environment for all.
Responsibilities
- Integrate speech and language strategies into natural environments and daily activities
- Work with infants, children, adults and their families in relation to Speech-Language Pathology
- Assess and manage feeding and swallowing concerns
- Provide family-centred, strengths-based care
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with other healthcare professionals
- Supervise Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs) and act as an AADL SGCD Authorizer
- Support communication using a variety of approaches, including AAC where appropriate
Qualifications
Master of Science in Speech and Language Therapy, plus three years of direct experienceRegistered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) with a valid Practice Permit (mandatory)Knowledge of the selection and design of Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) systemsUnderstanding of the Pyramid of Intervention, including broad-based supports as well as small group and individual strategiesStrong assessment and problem-solving skills to identify and address developmental and educational delaysEffective decision-making and leadership skillsAbility to work independentlyPossibility of supervision of SLPAsPrior to employment, successful candidates must submit a Police Information Check and Intervention Record CheckMust be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent ResidentVerbal Intervention Training (to be completed within the first 4 months; training provided free if hired)CPR and First Aid Certification (to be completed within the first 4 months; training may be arranged if needed)Compensation and Start Date
Compensation : $90.00+ per hourImmediate contractor positions available with flexible hoursClients are seen in person at the EDSS Centre in fully equipped therapy roomsAll administrative tasks (booking, invoicing, paperwork) are completed by EDSS staffStart Date : TBDHow to Apply
