Job Duties Job Duties The School of Manufacturing, Mining and Engineering Technologies at Saskatchewan Polytechnic is looking for an Energy Systems Technician for the Energy and Resource Sciences facility in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

You will help prepare materials for scheduled class exercises, assist Instructors in conducting hands-on learning activities, and support applied research projects utilizing the facility.

The successful candidate will be engaged in inventory management and purchasing and will be engaged in regular performance checks and overseeing repairs of equipment.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Energy and Resource Sciences facility on the Moose Jaw Campus.
  • Assist instructors in preparing materials and equipment used in the facility and support the instructor during hands-on exercise delivery.
  • Assist research personnel with the Sustainability-Led Integrated Centres of Excellence (SLICE) and other applied research areas to prepare materials and equipment used in applied research projects and support research staff during project activities.
  • Ensure tools and equipment are maintained in serviceable condition. Arrange for major repair of equipment if required. Coordinate replacement and / or repair of damaged or broken tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate equipment operation to new research staff and trainees engaged in applied research projects, as needed, and act as a resource for project personnel.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the facility and that equipment meets all safety regulations and compliance.
  • Receive, store, and dispense consumable items in consultation with the shipping and receiving department and follow shipping and receiving procedures.
  • Provide research and recommendations related to purchasing supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate and initiate purchasing of approved supplies and equipment.
  • Keep an up-to-date inventory record and maintenance scheduling system.
  • Prepare documentation concerning general facility operations and procedures.
  • Contribute to creating a positive, diverse, inclusive work and learning environment.
  • Must have a Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE Specific Accountabilities Duties Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA) 1.

Technologist Diploma in program-relevant field or equivalent apprentice-level combination of education and experience.

2. Three years recent / relevant experience in a technical or engineering environment, including program-relevant skills as required in mechanical assembly, electrical, instrumentation, or energy and resource management.

3. Member of / or eligible for certification with relevant certifying body, such as Technology Professionals Saskatchewan (TPS) as an Applied Science Technologist or Certified Technician.

4. Holding a 5th Class Power Engineer’s Certificate or Fireman Boiler Operator Certificate or eligible for certification is considered an asset.

5. Experience with program-relevant software and equipment and their integration,6. Effective interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.

7. Strong organizational and time management skills including planning, scheduling, and prioritizing workloads in a dynamic environment.

8. Strong data and records management skills with a digital focus.9. Effective problem-solving skills with strict attention to detail.

10. Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software, familiarity with learning management systems, and the ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.

11. Ability to function as an effective team member in an ever-changing environment.12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with many diverse groups, including other departments within Saskatchewan Polytechnic, staff, faculty, and industry stakeholders.
