AtkinsRéalis’s Minerals and Metals team in Canada is made up of more than 400 employees who work on large-scale projects to support mining sustainability, pit-to-port opportunities, metallurgical plant engineering, or mine closure and capabilities in the study, design, and construction of mining projects across a wide range of mining and processing methods and commodities.

We are seeking a Senior Project Manager, Social Development and Engagement to join our Global Minerals & Metals (M&M) team and to support our growth to align with the demand to supply responsibly sourced critical minerals.

AtkinsRéalis’ sustainable mining services cover the entire mining life cycle. With experience in all aspects of the mining industry, our diverse team is comprised of multidisciplinary experts spread across the globe.
From exploration to mine closures, we collaborate with our clients to manage life-of-mine risks, understand the social and environmental impacts, and define and implement solutions to ensure strategic proactive management of social and reputational risks, promoting local socio-economic development and opportunities in the minerals and metals industry.
This opportunity will be to support the M&M ESG & Sustainability team located in any of the major cities of Canada : Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto; including Kelowna.
Your role within the team :
- Manage social impact and risk assessment, community development and investment, Indigenous communities’ engagement and consultation, social performance, land acquisition and involuntary resettlement, local procurement, human rights, and ESG due diligence projects in the minerals and metals industry, from proposal generation to the delivery of quality reports on time and budget.
- Experience and understanding of strategies to identify, address and mitigate social and human rights risks / impacts, including cultural heritage and other social development topics.
- Lead the Social Development and Engagement project delivery team, and communicate clear objectives for the team to understand and achieve project goals in context of the client’s requirements.
- Support social permits and approvals through appropriate collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and Partner Nations.
- Understand and participate in engineering and construction processes to ensure that social, community investment, and stakeholder engagement requirements have been adequately addressed;
measure and integrate the value of social responsibility into business and investment decisions.
- Manage and develop reports aligned with international standards and guidelines (UN Principles, IFC, ICMM, IRMA, UN Sustainable Development Goals, GRI, MAC-TSM, Copper Mark, RMI, among others)
- Promote business development activities with current and potential clients, fostering innovation and emerging technologies, and getting involved in relevant conferences in the minerals and metals industry.

The ideal candidate :
10+ years of progressive experience in social studies, stakeholder engagement, social investment interventions, human rights, RAP Resettlement Action Plan, livelihood restoration, and negotiation management.
Strategic understanding of global social performance issues, standards, and best practice relevant to the mining industry.
Desirable experience with engineering consulting environment.
- Master’s degree in Social Science, Engineering, Resource Economics, Sustainability, Development Studies, Geoscience, or related discipline.
- Demonstrate strong writing skills and abilities by succinctly conveying recommendations, ideas, and insights in reports, presentation materials, client proposals, and other written communications.
Fluent in English; Spanish or Portuguese proficiency would be an asset.
Experience engaging and collaborating with Indigenous Nations and Peoples. Previous experience developing and embedding sustainability strategies within large complex businesses : e.
g., along the different stages of the mine lifecycle.
Relevant professional designation (B.C. R.P.Bio., P.Chem., P.Geo., P.Eng., or P.Ag.) or eligibility status in Canada. Knowledge of relevant federal regulations and standards governing mining operations in Canada and United States.

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $116,600 - $160,300 annually) (Only Applicable to British Columbia).
Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
