About Liver Canada
Liver Canada (LC), formerly the Canadian Liver Foundation, was first established in 1969 out of the passion and concern of a group of business leaders and doctors who believed that liver disease needed a champion. Since then, LC has relentlessly driven advancements in research, treatment, and support.
We remain the only non-governmental organization in Canada focused on liver health, and we’re the main source of non-profit funding for all forms of liver disease.
With the help of donors, volunteers, researchers, health professionals, corporate supporters, and community members, we are changing the future of liver health for those living in Canada.
About the Role
Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director, Mission is primarily responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, evaluation, and improvement of Liver Canada’s key programs and services including Liver Canada’s research program, patient support programs, the National Help Line, Canada-wide LIVERight Health Forums, webinars, educational resources, patient support and advocacy initiatives and community outreach. This is a leadership role that includes developing the strategy for mission delivery and budget management, alongside the President & CEO. Additionally, the Director, Mission will build and maintain relationships with key healthcare partners, funders and community partners to help Liver Canada achieve its vision and mission.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
The major responsibilities, though may not be limited to, are outlined below :
Program and Project Strategy and Management
- Responsible for all facets of programming and service development and delivery, as listed and beyond – from proposal writing, planning, budgeting, implementation and execution, operations, communications, evaluation and report writing.
- Ensure consistency of quality, accountability and high standards in all programs and services, along with educational materials and patient support with the assistance of Liver Canada’s Medical Advisory Committee and Community Advisors.
- Develop and implement both short- and long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of all LC’s programs and services and implement improvements where needed to continually improve outcomes.
- Attend Liver Canada’s Board of Directors meetings to provide program‑related updates and answer questions.
Liver Canada Community & Educational Resources
Build and broaden the membership of the Liver Canada’s community, including creative ways of engagement.Design and execute community information activities, advocacy campaigns, program activities, and work with LC teams to accomplish these goals.Develop educational resources and programs and manage content, dissemination, and promotion.Evaluate community programs, educational resources, information activities, and advocacy initiatives, and determine and implement improvements.Respond and engage with the community, upon request, to assist in individual support and assistance (i.e. letters of support).Promote the Help Line as a critical resource for the Canadian public for free support and assistance on issues relating to liver disease, providing high quality and fast service.Responsible for the supervision, management, and administration of phone and email queries.Patient Advocacy and Partnership Engagement
Develop and write patient input submissions (i.e. for Canada’s Drug Agency), when appropriate.Support the CEO on Liver Canada advocacy initiatives and campaigns, at both provincial and federal levels.Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and partners to achieve the LC vision and project / program objectives through alignment and collaboration opportunities.Coordinate the Medical Advisory Committee and manage their responsibilities in program / resource review and content development.Liver Canada’s National Research Program
In 2026, implement the recommendations of LC’s recent audit of the National Research Program, including finding ways to attract researchers to liver disease research.Monitor and measure the success of the new program and make suggestions as to how to improve the program.Promote Liver Canada’s Research Program to researchers, donors, and funding agencies.Lead the administration of the Research Program. Disseminate the application and call for proposals for the National Research Program, manage inquiries and received applications, assist with the adjudication process and distribution of funds to applicants, and ensure updates from the funder are provided.Work in tandem with the Medical Advisory Committee to administer the Research Program and provide reports to the Committee and the Board of Directors.Work with the Marketing / Communications and Fundraising departments to translate research progress for stakeholders, including funding agencies.Team Management & Development
Live and foster LC values (all‑embracing, authentic, compassionate, transformative) and encourage others to do so as well.Lead, manage, and inspire the Mission team to achieve program goals.Supervise and mentor the Mission team by providing support, encouragement, and advice on a regular basis.Encourage collaboration and innovation within the Mission team and with other teams.Manage team members’ performance and encourage their growth and development.Other Related Duties
Liaise with Board of Directors and Board Committees as delegated by the President & CEO.Prepare and present reports on programs and services to the Board of Directors, Board Committees, President & CEO, and the Leadership Team, as required.Collaborate with the leadership team in preparation of corporate and organizational funding proposals and reports.Work with the President & CEO to develop, analyze, and review the LC budget.Required Skills and Qualifications
