The Division Head of Medical Imaging, Central Island is a subject matter expert who provides leadership to division members and collaborates with the Department Head to ensure high quality laboratory medicine medical services at the sites within the scope of the division.

The Division Head reports to the Department Head of Diagnostic Imaging and receives support from Medical Affairs to carry out its responsibilities.

The Medical Lead, Medical Imaging (all Central Island Hospitals, including NRGH, WCGH, TGH and any other sites requested by the Department Head / Medical Director) is a co-leadership position with operational decision-making responsibilities.

With the position’s Co-Leader, the Medical Lead works proactively with others (including patients) to enhance teamwork (including collaboration between physicians and staff) and to facilitate continuous quality improvement of laboratory services.

This position reports to the Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging

Division Head main responsibilities of this position :

  • Medical workforce planning : Collaboratively monitors and anticipates division workforce needs, and works with the Department Head and Medical Affairs to address identified needs.
  • Practice standards : Leads development and routine monitoring of medical practice standards.
  • Research and education : Supports division members to conduct research and to provide medical education.
  • Individual practitioner quality (IPQ) : Facilitates continuous improvement of IPQ by leading effective :
  • Credentialing and privileging activities, including in-depth reviews
  • Continuing professional development (CPD) activities, including implementing the annual Departmental CPD plan for division members
  • Practitioner performance enhancement activities, in collaboration with Enhanced Medical Staff Support (EMSS) team

Additional contract content

  • Will attend LMAC meeting within the Geography assigned
  • Will meet with Department Head and other Division Heads, as required
  • Will hold regular divisional members quality meetings, minimum of four per year
  • Will provide early intervention and support Chiefs of Staff in matters of medical professional behaviour
  • Will use an Island Health email address for work related to this position
  • Will dedicate time to this position during Island Health regular working hours, or as agreed upon with the Department Head
  • Will participate in orientation and training

Medical Lead main responsibilities of this position :

Leadership : Co-leads activities to ensure physicians and staff work as a team to monitor and improve service delivery;

Links with appropriate Division Heads and Chiefs of Staff to address matters of physician governance, including professional medical practice issues.

Operations & Quality : Implements processes and structures to engage physicians and staff in continuous quality improvement of service delivery;

Monitors team budget and performance jointly with Co-Leader and makes course corrections when necessary; Initiates investigations of team-related PSLS and PCQO events.

  • Change Management : Acts as change management champion’ to engage and support physicians and staff through change.
  • Informatics : Leads team activities that advance technology and data use to improve service delivery using the electronic health records (EHR) in collaboration with the Quality Systems team.
  • Planning : Assesses, monitors, and anticipates team resource needs and works with medical leaders and administrative leaders to prioritize these needs within available resources.
