Description
The Technical Operations Group within the Faculty of Science is currently seeking a Full-time Temporary Relief Science Autoclave Technician for approximately 12 months. The Science Core Facilities Technician is an instrumental member of the Technical Support Services team responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Bio Core Autoclave Facility and Bio Stores satellite. This position requires a strong aptitude for customer service, safety, and general operation of the Bio Autoclave Facility, Bio Stores area, and related equipment. This position involves prep rooms including the sterilization of laboratory equipment, media, biohazardous waste and the cleaning of laboratory glassware to support both research and teaching in Science. The position ensures supplies are available, trains users to understand and follow all safety protocols in the Autoclave Facility, as well as maintaining daily digital data entry of all dry and liquid items and waste. The position ensures communal equipment is maintained, tested, meets or exceeds test certification, and the room laboratory / facility is clean and well-organized. The Science Core Facilities Technician is responsible for assisting in the distribution of received packages and mail through Supply Chain Management for the Faculty of Science. Lastly, the position includes the safe distribution dispensing of Liquid Nitrogen, as well as ensuring the transport dewar that supplies liquid nitrogen is replenished, as needed, from Science Stores, while following the UCalgary EHS cryogenic handling standard. This position will requires strict attention to safety due to handling of biohazardous wastes and cryogenic materials, as well as strong interpersonal skills in dealing with various Faculty of Science personnel in a supporting role, SCM and other stakeholders. This position reports to the PI.
