About the role
Our Resources subsector, a key component of WSP’s Energy, Resources and Industry (ERI) sector, supports clients from coast to coast. We provide a full range of services to industrial and mining projects, from feasibility studies to detailed EPCM and project closure. This position will lead the design and optimization of layout design for heavy industrial projects across the subsector.
Location : Canadian offices – Etobicoke, Mississauga, Thornhill, Sudbury, Thunder Bay and / or Saskatoon, SK (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and optimization of layout design for heavy industrial projects.
- Prepare 3D models and layout arrangements for plant upgrades and new facilities.
- Review vendor drawings and ensure conformity with engineering designs.
- Prepare design calculations, briefs and sketches.
- Conduct trade‑off studies and prepare reports.
- Participate in field engineering assignments.
- Review design work related to layout arrangements and equipment models.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure timely and accurate flow of design information.
- Maintain and revise equipment libraries, department standards, and procedures.
- Attend model reviews.
- Prepare man‑hour estimates and determine layout staffing requirements for projects.
- Manage large groups of designers on a project, assigning work to staff.
- Participate in project cost estimates.
- Develop and recommend improvements in design standards to reduce costs and improve quality.
- Provide technical guidance and leadership to layout project staff.
- Ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and quality of all layout deliverables.
- Prepare layout technical quality audits across multiple projects.
Qualifications
College Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent.15+ years of mechanical engineering design experience, specifically in layout design for heavy industrial and / or mining projects.2+ years experience in a team lead role.Strong understanding of mechanical equipment installation requirements in the field.Consulting experience.Proven experience with Plant3D, Revit, MicroStation, SolidEdge and SmartPlant.Strong written and verbal communication skills.French language skills (written and verbal) an asset.Strong interpersonal skills; positive attitude; desire to perform design engineering.Strong leadership and management skills.Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to solve problems effectively.Benefits and Culture
