As an integral member of the Radiation Medicine Program (RMP) in the Radiation Therapy (RT) Leadership Team, the RT Supervisor provides oversight for RT departmental operations .

This position is responsible for overseeing the practice of Radiation Therapists within RMP. S / he or they will contribute to staff development by mentoring, coaching and providing direction;

by ongoing development and performance monitoring of team members, in a supportive / collaborative learning environment.

The RT Supervisor will liaise with members of the multi- disciplinary team to ensure efficient coordination of care / service provision in order to meet / exceed high standards of practice, quality and safety.

The RT Supervisor undertakes quality assurance responsibilities, fosters a culture of patient safety and error elimination .

Through the provision of leadership and the application of clinical expertise the team care leader contributes to ensuring a high standard of practice is maintained for the optimal management of patient care.

The RT Supervisor maintains the clinical skills by participating in clinical practice 20% of the time; primarily through training and coaching of RT team members.

The RT Supervisor will also play a hands-on role in the development and dissemination of new techniques and technology by employing team work and optimizing use of resources to adopt standardized approaches to planning and treatment, in order to enhance the quality of care.

The main function of the RMP Super Teams is to facilitate effective and efficient RT treatment; by employing team work and optimizing use of resources to adopt standardized approaches to planning and treatment in order to enhance the quality of care.

In collaboration with the physicians and physicists, the RT Supervisor will :

  • Enhance the transparency of the organizational structure of the Super Team
  • Ensure treatment policies are complete and up to date, available and communicated
  • Ensure an up-to-date inventory of the full set of protocols is available
  • Facilitate communication within the super-team, promote team work and engagement in problem-solving
  • Ensure QA policies are implemented
  • Drive change management and actively participate in project implementation

In collaboration with the physicians and physicists, the RT Supervisor will :

  • Ensure treatment policies are complete and up to date, available and communicated
  • Ensure an up-to-date inventory of the full set of protocols is available
  • Facilitate communication within RMP, promote team work and engagement in problem-solving
  • Ensure QA policies are implemented
  • Drive change management and actively participate in project implementation

Qualifications

  • At minimum, completion of a Bachelor's degree in Radiation Therapy; Master's degree preferred
  • Currently a registered member of CMRITO
  • Membership with CAMRT
  • Current CPR certification
  • Minimum of 5 years practical and related experience as a Radiation Therapist MRT(T)
  • Minimum of 2 years previous experience undertaking formal or informal leadership role(s) - demonstrated leadership abilities and effective team management skills;

effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Evidence of professional development in area of leadership, , completion of leadership courses / workshops required; willingness to participate in further learning
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirement governing practice such as CMRITO standards of practice, CAMRT competency profiles, MRT, ACT, RHPA, HARP, CNSC, as well as UHN policies
  • Experience in working in an unionized environment preferred
  • Ability to apply knowledge of radiation therapy principles, theories and concepts - demonstrated clinical expertise, and awareness of clinical and research protocols
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving levels of high quality patient care
  • Ability to exercise judgment and sound decision making to resolve problems and de-escalation; excellent critical thinking and facilitation skills;

takes initiative and uses sound judgment; able to multi-task

  • Demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills
  • Understanding of quality principles
