About the Role
We are seeking a Grant Processing Advisor (Claims Specialist) to support provincial child care grant administration initiatives. This role is responsible for ensuring claim accuracy, resolving complex inquiries, coordinating recoveries, supporting system enhancements, and providing guidance to internal teams and external childcare providers. The successful candidate will bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience working in high-volume, policy-driven environments.
Key Responsibilities
Claims & Customer Support
Serve as a key point of contact for childcare providers regarding complex claim, adjustment, advance, and registration inquiriesInvestigate and resolve online submission errors, payment discrepancies, and customer complaintsApply program, financial, and operational policies to provide accurate guidance and decisionsPayment Accuracy & Quality Assurance
Monitor system-generated pre-payment quality assurance reportsCoordinate and track post-payment verification activitiesIdentify errors, anomalies, or potential fraud in submitted claimsPrepare claims activity reports using ministry reporting systemsGrant Recovery Coordination
Manage recovery processes for overpayments and repayment casesMaintain tracking tools and recovery recordsIssue repayment notices and coordinate follow-upsEscalate complex recovery issues and report recovery progressInformation System & Process Support
Identify opportunities to streamline and enhance business processesDevelop testing scripts and coordinate testing activities for system enhancementsProvide input into system improvements and operational efficienciesSupervision & Team Support
Support onboarding, training, and supervision of Claims Payment CoordinatorsAssign tasks, monitor workloads, and identify training or performance gapsStakeholder Collaboration
Liaise with internal ministry branches including Finance, Child Care Delivery, Strategic Technology, and Program EvaluationMaintain positive working relationships with childcare providers and external stakeholdersProvide policy-related information and operational clarification as requiredMandatory Skills & Qualifications
High School Diploma or GEDStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsExperience handling complex claims, financial data, or payment verificationAdvanced MS Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, reporting)Proficiency with MS Office (2010 or higher)Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team environmentsExperience prioritizing tasks in high-volume, deadline-driven settingsStrong attention to detail with proven decision-making abilityAvailability to attend onsite meetings in Edmonton as requiredPreferred Skills
Experience supervising or coordinating work for team membersBackground in public sector programs, grants, or compliance-driven environmentsExperience identifying system gaps and designing process improvementsWork Schedule & Location
