The Metrology Technician is responsible for performing dimensional inspections, calibration, and measurement system analysis to ensure product and equipment accuracy. This role supports manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams by maintaining measurement equipment, ensuring compliance with customer and industry standards, and providing precise dimensional data for decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Dimensional Inspection & Measurement
- Perform dimensional inspections on parts, components, and assemblies using CMM, laser scanners, height gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other precision instruments.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications.
- Conduct first article inspections, capability studies, and PPAP-related measurements.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports with accurate measurement data.
Calibration & Equipment Management
Perform calibration of gauges, fixtures, and measurement equipment according to schedules.Maintain the calibration system, records, and certificates in compliance with quality standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949).Identify, document, and remove out-of-tolerance tools or gauges from service.Coordinate external calibration services when required.Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
Conduct Gage R&R studies and other MSA activities.Analyze measurement systems to ensure accuracy, repeatability, and reproducibility.Recommend improvements to measurement processes and equipment.Technical Support
Assist engineering and production teams by providing accurate measurement data for troubleshooting, product validation, and process improvements.Set up and program CMM inspections (PC-DMIS, Calypso, or other software depending on equipment).Support tooling verification, fixture certification, and process validation activities.Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of inspection results, calibration data, and measurement reports.Ensure all documentation meets customer and industry requirements.Support audit activities by providing calibration and measurement evidence when requested.Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve measurement accuracy, standardization, and equipment reliability.Support the development of new measurement techniques and best practices.Participate in quality and efficiency improvement initiatives.To be a qualified candidate, you must meet the following :
Diploma or degree in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field.1–3 years of experience in metrology, dimensional inspection, or quality in manufacturing (automotive preferred).Strong knowledge of GD&T , precision measurement tools, and CMM operation / programming.Experience with CMM software (e.g., PC-DMIS , Zeiss Calypso , Mitutoyo MCOSMOS ) is an asset.Understanding of MSA, Gage R&R, calibration systems, PPAP, and IATF 16949 requirements.Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and documentation accuracy.Ability to read blueprints and interpret dimensional requirements.Why work for Minth?
