We are currently seeking a Behavioural Health Navigator (BHN) to join our team in the Therapeutic Living Units (TLU) in Lethbridge. TLUs are unique Therapeutic Communities within correctional settings, providinginmates (members) an opportunity for evidence-based care for substance use disorders. As a Behavioural Health Navigator, you play a crucial role in supporting the "community asmethod" process. Working alongside TLU members, youparticipateequally in various activities likerecreation, andchores, emphasizing membership and modeling behavior.
All staff activelyparticipatein the community, ensuring a safe and positive environment. Through sharingpersonal experienceswith members, you create connections whilemaintainingprofessional boundaries and employing 'Rational Authority' in Therapeutic Community language. Reporting to the TLU Lead, the BHN's primary role is to mentor and engage members in groups to address substance misuse and mental health challenges.
Role-Specific Accountabilities
- Provide therapeutic interventions tailored to the needs and preferences of assigned caseload.
- Assistinfacilitatingthe weekly program schedule for members, balancing formal therapeutic interventions with unstructured components.
- Support the implementation of new treatment initiatives.
- Attend all directed clinical and administrative meetings.
- Activelyparticipatein clinical review meetings for TLU staff and other sessions.
- Contribute to the development and review of members' treatment plans.
- Maintain confidentiality, ethical boundaries, and professional conduct with TLU members.
- Offer and receive constructive feedback to promote personal growth and a healthy TLU environment.
- Activelyparticipateas a valued TLU member, attending groups, supervising, and trainingnew staff, and conducting workshops as directed.
- Assess and provide feedback on the TLU environment to increase member awareness and community function.
- Serve as a positive role model in behavior, communication, attitude, and adherence to rules.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the service model and quality improvement processes.
- Support learning experiences for conflict resolution, problem-solving, decision-making, coping under stress, and pro-social behaviors.
- Respond to crisis and urgent situations.
- Liaise with family members, correctional, and community agencies as directed.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends & holidays.
Qualifications
Minimum three (3)yearsrecent related experience, including training or experience in addictions work or an equivalent combination of education,trainingand experience.Completion of a formal addiction certification program (CCAD, CIAC, RSG Recognized Recovery Coaching program,etc) would be considered an asset. The program will be considered on a case- by-case basis.Identifiedwork experience in a therapeutic setting, includingdemonstratedknowledge of problematic substance use and mental health issues.Knowledge and experience with therapeutic interventions, assessment, casemanagementand treatment planning.Experience inworking with members from diverse backgrounds anddifferent culturalgroups.Ability todemonstratestrong interpersonal,verbaland written communication skills.Good presentation and group facilitation skills.Identifiedexperience working withcorrectionspopulations.Lived experience related to addictions and / or mental health and correctional work experience or corrections livedexperiencean asset.Conditions of Employment
Successfully complete and pass a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Record Check prior to initiating employment and annually thereafter.Clearance to be on premises by the Director of the Correctional Facility.This is a fulltime position based in Lethbridge, with travel to other Alberta sites as needed for operational coverage.
