Job Title : Park Maintenance Crew Lead and Park Maintenance Worker.

Location : Various Locations – Whitecourt, Edson.

Full or Part-Time : Full-Time.

Hours of Work : Up to 40 hours per week.

Permanent / Temporary : Temporary – Wage, Seasonal.

Scope : Open Competition.

Classification : Maintenance Service Worker 1, Maintenance Service Worker 3.

Salary and Benefits

Maintenance Service Worker 1 (MSW1) – Park Maintenance Worker 1 : $23.11 - $26.00 per hour.

Maintenance Service Worker 3 (MSW3) – Park Maintenance Crew Lead : $26.18 - $32.08 per hour.

In addition to regular wages, regular Wage employees receive 11.6% in lieu of benefits and vacation leave : 5.6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays; 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.

In addition to the regular wages and the additional pay in lieu of benefits and vacation, regular wage employees are entitled to shift premium pay : $3.25 per hour for weekends and holidays; $2.75 per hour for evenings.

Role Responsibilities

If you enjoy working outside and are committed to improving a visitor’s experience when visitors come to visit a provincial park, and want to help promote customer service in the parks by maintaining clean facilities and campgrounds, come join our Maintenance Team at any one of the listed Alberta Provincial Parks and Recreation Area locations within the Yellowhead Management Area.

We are looking for highly motivated, well-organized, responsible Park Maintenance Workers for the 2026 summer season. Individuals will be part of a team accountable for providing regular maintenance and operational duties that support the day-to-day operation of campgrounds, day use areas, facilities and trail systems.

Whitecourt – Carson Pegasus Provincial Park

  • 1 Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3)
  • 5 Park Maintenance Workers (MSW1)

Edson – Wolf Lake West Provincial Recreation Area / Minnow Lake Provincial Recreation Area

  • 1 Park Maintenance Crew Lead (MSW3, works in both areas)
  • 1 Park Maintenance Worker (MSW1, works in both areas)
  • As a Park Maintenance Service Worker (MSW1) duties and responsibilities include but not limited to :

  • Performing daily janitorial duties of park facilities such as washrooms, outhouses, picnic shelters, shower houses and any other assigned areas.
  • Daily garbage and recycling removal.
  • Performing landscaping and site servicing of campgrounds, day use areas and facilities.
  • Operating equipment such as mowers, trimmers, pressure washers, ATVs, and UTVs.
  • Assisting with trail, beach and dock maintenance.
  • Installing and maintaining signage.
  • Painting.
  • Reporting all maintenance concerns accordingly.
  • Assisting with hazard tree management and invasive plant management programs.
  • Following all applicable OH&S policies and procedures, including the Facility Emergency Response Plan.
  • Completing administrative tasks such as timesheets, expense claims, commencement and termination paperwork, and online courses.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience required :

    Park Maintenance Worker – Maintenance Service Worker 1

  • Some high school education
  • Equivalency : Directly related experience based on one year of experience for one year of education.
  • Park Maintenance Crew Lead – Maintenance Service Worker 3

  • Some high school education, related training, and two years of related experience
  • Equivalency : Directly related education or experience based on one year of education for one year or experience OR for one year of experience for one year of education.
  • Additional Requirements

  • A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • Driver’s abstract issued within 30 days of your application submission.
  • Recognized Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" / AED Certificate.
  • WHMIS Certificate.
  • Additional Assets To Be Successful In Either Role

  • Experience with hand and power tools; good working knowledge in the operation, maintenance, and safety of small equipment.
  • Experience working in custodial, landscaping, or similar positions.
  • Chainsaw certification.
  • Exceptional communication skills and comfort level in dealing with difficult customer interactions or complaints.
  • Experience working within a campground setting.
  • Supervisory experience.

    Notes and Terms of Employment

    Terms Of Employment :

    For the Park Maintenance Worker roles : Late April start date to September end date.

    For The Park Maintenance Crew Lead Role : April start date to October end date.

    For All Positions : Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work. A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent will be required. Final candidates will be required to provide an acceptable 5-year Commercial Driver’s Abstract prior to commencement (will be reimbursed). Prior to hire, recognized current intermediate Standard First Aid and CPR Level "C" / AED Certificate will be required for all positions. Adherence to Alberta Parks Uniform Policy; all personal protective equipment is provided. Certified Safety footwear is not provided, but candidates will be reimbursed for a portion of the cost. These positions will require outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions. Training sessions at the beginning of employment are mandatory (late April / early May). Staff housing may be available.

    Maintenance Workers may encounter emotionally challenging situations and must be prepared to manage these with composure, sound judgment, and effective communication. Support resources are available through our employee assistance programs. Initial costs for required documents / checks are the candidate’s responsibility, though some reimbursements may occur. Interview travel expenses are not reimbursed. Out-of-province applicants can obtain required documents / checks from their current province.
