We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead the financial operations of our organization and support our long-term stability and growth. About the Role As the Controller, you will oversee the daily operations of the finance department, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial activities. You will lead a dedicated administrative team, manage budgeting processes, support financial planning, and provide critical insights that assist organizational decision-making. This role works closely with managers across the organization to strengthen financial performance and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and support the administrative team in day-to-day operations.
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, payroll, financial reporting, budgeting, and special projects.
- Manage month-end close, prepare financial statements, and complete year-end adjustments.
- Prepare federal and provincial financial reports and support annual audit processes.
- Coordinate operating and capital budget development and provide ongoing budget-to-actual reporting.
- Advise management on financial planning, cost control, and process improvement opportunities.
- Monitor accounts receivable collections, review invoice processing, and support inventory costing and valuation.
- Lead insurance procurement and management for fleet, facilities, and corporate needs, ensuring effective risk coverage.
- Oversee bank reconciliations, cash management, foreign currency purchases, and deposit processes.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll and benefits administration.
- Maintain financial records, fixed asset systems, and stay current with applicable legislation.
- Participate in program evaluations, performance reviews, and cross-departmental initiatives.
- Ensure funding for operational working capital and fleet operations. Qualifications & Requirements
- University degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.
- Professional accounting designation is considered an asset (CA, CGA, CMA, CPA - current and in good standing).
- Minimum three to five (3-5) years of experience in a similar role.
- Ability to support Staalduinen Floral Ltd and all its related companies.
- Proficiency with Flower-power, Sage 300, and ADP payroll systems or ability to learn quickly.
- Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Demonstrated experience leading, supervising, or mentoring a team.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to build respectful and effective working relationships.
- Ability to interpret and present accounting information to individuals of varying accounting acumen.
- Ability to interpret data and provide analysis to support decision-making (including costing, logistics, and margins analysis).
- Highly organized, with exceptional time management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
