Job Summary :
The Senior Accountant helps lead day‐to‐day finance operations for Chiniki First Nation, supporting Chiniki First Nation programs and Chiniki Development Corporation. Primary focus areas include overlooking Accounts Payable (AP) operations; receipt, coding, and allocation of government and other funding; assisting with preparation for management reporting and supervision of related support staff.
Key Responsibilities :
- Ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness of accounting functions
- Reconciliation of revenue and expense accounts for multiple programs
- Preparation and analysis of various management reports
- Oversee treasury and complete weekly review of bank accounts and various analysis
- Identifies trends by analyzing financial results and monitoring variances
- Assist in developing accounting policies and procedures with focus on internal controls
- Cross training in all accounting departments to ensure adequate coverage of office positions

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities :
Accounts Payable
Oversee end‐to‐end AP processing to ensure accuracy, proper authorization, coding, and on‐time paymentsSupport, guide, and review work of cheque requisitions provided by each Program ManagerManage internal and external liaison billingReconcile and perform variance analysis for all account payable statements and related issuesGeneral Ledger / Reporting
Monitor budget vs actual performance on an ongoing basisAssist in preparation of annual budget input for various programsAssist in audit & other financial report preparationCoordinate with Programs’ Manager
Track funding agreements and monitor Funding Agreements versus funding receivedWork with departmental / program manager leads to ensure proper allocation of government and other restricted funds to GL, and proper department codesIdentify and investigate areas of improvement within the departmentPerform Ad-hoc duties as requiredEducation and Experience
Post‐secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field required.Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting, including A / R and A / P, and Fixed AssetsCPA Accounting designation or in the final phase of obtaining a CPA designation is an assetAt least 2 years experience working for a First Nation preferredSkills & Qualifications :
Knowledgeable in accounting principles and practicesAttention to detail and high level of accuracyExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to lead and operate in a multi-disciplinary team environmentAbility to explain / present ideas and solutions; anticipating potential objections and preparing business case accordinglyAbility to handle deadlines, multiple daily interactions, and resolve workplace conflicts professionallyDemonstrated proficiency in Excel skills (intermediate to advanced level), Word, and OutlookExperience or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund and grant accounting, and compliance reportingKnowledge of Xyntax Accounting System considered an assetPlease submit your cover letter and resume on or before December 1st, 2025, to :
