Position Summary :
Reporting to the AVP of Mortgage Originations, the Director of Mortgage Originations is responsible for leading and organizing a highly effective, customer-focused, and consistent group of professional Underwriters.
Major Duties & Responsibilities :
- Manage and mentor a team of underwriters. Provide feedback on file review, documentation, and escalations processes.
- Review and sign off on files within assigned authority.
- Support underwriters with mortgage adjudication.
- Act as a resource for Business Development Managers on vetting potential deals and building broker relationships.
- Monitor trends closely and uphold compliance with QA Risk, AML policies, and procedures.
- Aid in creating and presenting training modules for both new and current underwriters.
- Assist in ongoing updates of Haventree’s mortgage underwriting policies (RMOM).
- Responsible for recruitment, performance evaluations, and fostering employee development.
Qualifications & Experience :
Degrees, Diplomas & Certifications :
The position requires a university degree or equivalent.
Years and Range of Experience Required to Perform the Job :
- The position requires at least 7 years of experience in the Alt A and B Canadian residential mortgage lending industry, in both the mortgage underwriting and mortgage administrative functions.
- Proven ability in successfully training and developing underwriters.
- Strong experience in reviewing residential mortgage appraisals and evaluating the associated risk.
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft products and various Underwriting and Servicing Platforms.
- Advanced organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communicator, able to present technical topics to non-technical audiences (both orally and written).
- Strong analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.
