About This Opportunity

Emergency Medicine physician wanted!

Yarmouth Regional Hospital (YRH) is seeking emergency physicians located in in the Town of Yarmouth in Southwest Nova Scotia this regional hospital serves a population of approximately 60,000, in three counties.

The successful candidate may also participate in teaching through the family medicine residency program based in Yarmouth and / or with medical students through Dalhousie University.

YRH was originally founded in 1912 and has developed into a vast health care complex serving the 58,000 people of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby Counties.

YRH has 124 inpatient beds and provides a range of primary and secondary services through in-patient, outpatient and satellite programs :

  • Dalhousie School of Nursing
  • veteran’s unit
  • chronic pain clinic
  • kidney clinic

  • alternate level of care unit
  • ambulatory care
  • anesthesiology
  • cancer care centre
  • cardiac investigation and respiratory services
  • continuing care
  • diabetes education
  • diagnostic imaging
  • dialysis
  • emergency medicine
  • falls prevention

  • mental health and addictions services
  • obstetrics and gynecology
  • occupational therapy

  • physiotherapy

Responsibilities

  • examine patients, order diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures
  • advise patients on health care, health promotion, and disease prevention
  • consult and refer to other medical practitioners
  • act as a patient advocate
  • prescribe and administer medications and treatments, inoculations and vaccinations

Qualifications

  • College of Family Physicians of Canada Emergency Medicine certification would be considered an asset
  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • emergency department experience an asset
