What you’ll do

  • Identify, analyze, and use relevant and valid information including research findings in the development of educational curriculum.
  • Participate in a collaborative manner to assist in the design and delivery of educational initiatives of other educational programs within Clinical Prevention Services and agency including Aboriginal Programs, Outreach, Hepatitis and the STI and TB Clinics.
  • Promote nursing standards including the quality of documentation by modelling quality practice, encouraging dialogue about practice, monitoring practice to identify learning needs and, accordingly, teaching, coaching and guiding staff as they increase their knowledge and skills.
  • Facilitate competence development with staff and student nurses by planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating general and program specific nursing orientation and continuing education programs.
  • Develop and adapt educational programs and materials in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and according to needs and priorities of the clinical program.
  • Promotes the education of clients by acting as a clinical and educational resource, role model and mentor to nurses and other health care professionals.

Provides information and clinical consultation to community based health care providers regarding evidence based practices.

Coordinates the clinical placement of nursing students within the program to ensure effective utilization of clinical resources.

Works collaboratively with visiting nursing faculty and with preceptors within the program to facilitate productive and quality learning experiences for students.

What you bring

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Two (2) years of experience in curriculum design and delivery and clinical nursing practice education, and one (1) year of experience in nursing practice specific to the prevention and treatment of STI, Hepatitis, TB and / or HIV pre- and post-test counselling.
  • British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Certified Practice in Reproductive Health and completion of course work and / or certification applicable to the designated clinical area including STI certification for STI Services.

You will also have

  • Ability to travel throughout the province of British Columbia.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, facilitate and coach in online, clinical, and workshop settings. Demonstrated ability to develop and present educational programs and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to access appropriate literature databases and undertake literature searches.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities, plan and organize work, and to work within time-sensitive projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership in facilitating group work with multiple individuals and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events, deal effectively with conflict situations, and to problem solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate related equipment.
  • Demonstrated computer skills including competence with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Outlook, and Internet Explorer, and to access computerized multi-media resources for education.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
  • Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
